andybarton Posted January 28, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted January 28, 2021 I bought my “camera for life” 10 years ago, but sold it to a friend about 5 years ago. So, no. Mine had nicer leather than these ones too 😊

All my remaining Leica cameras (2 film bodies and an M240) are effectively "cameras for life". Not because I'm particularly attached to them (though I do like my film cameras) but because I can't imagine buying another now that they seem to be routinely £7k or so.
andybarton Posted January 28, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted January 28, 2021 Me neither. I have my first Leica, my M2, made in 1960, 9 months before I was born, and my M240 I will never have £7000 to spend on a camera again, so this is it for me If the M240 ever croaks, I will just reconsider my hobby
logan2z Posted January 28, 2021 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2021 Only two now - and no, I didn't buy the third one They're $2K more than the 'standard' cameras, for a different viewfinder magnification? Uh, no.

I didn't see that in the description of either remaining camera (maybe the one that sold?), and no photos of that either. Even so, I couldn't see a non-standard (how exactly?) wind on lever justifying $2K more than a standard BP MP..
wattsy Posted January 28, 2021 Share #9 Posted January 28, 2021 It's made of 18ct gold.

andybarton Posted January 28, 2021 Author Share #12 Posted January 28, 2021 They wouldn’t last long as they probably only bought one of each. Just goes to show that Leica might have got it wrong to stop making them.
Mr.Prime Posted January 29, 2021 Share #13 Posted January 29, 2021 (edited) I would love to have an MP! I have an M3 and M4 but it would be fantastic to have one from new, that would be a forever camera and the light meter would be a welcome addition. There are probably a few more dreamers like me who can’t contemplate the asking price though. Why do you say they have stopped making them, I thought the M-P was current production ? I think he's referring to the discontinuation of the a la carte program that produced cameras with .85 and .58 viewfinders. The M-A and MP are both still in production.
