I owned a Q2 in March but when the pandemic hit, I was concerned about values and sold it. I’d paid a reasonable price but my Ricoh GRiii was 95% the camera in a smaller body.

Well it’s that 5% that I missed, and after trying several other cameras including the X100V this year, (poor contrast, poor IQ in terms of detail IMO and the JPEGs really aren’t truly like film no matter how much I tried to get them there), I decided I needed a Q2 back in my life.

We’ve just finalised Brexit here in the UK, which is causing issues with importation even from Europe, so I thought I may as well buy a new one now, and get out there, even though money is pretty tight. YOLO.

The main attraction of the Q2 is the contrast of the lens, followed by the weather sealing and the overall design aesthetic. It’s so well thought out, it kind of just makes you want to shoot. The other cameras never seem to do that.

I picked up the holster too as it’s a well made accessory and I like the accessibility of the way it holds the camera. As it’s weather sealed I won’t worry about exposing it to the elements as well.

So I know you’ve seen them before but here’s a couple of shots of the new camera. Have a great day!

Congrats on the new acquisition.

The holster appears a perfect fit.

I am in the early phase of your foot step, deciding if I should get a new or used Q2, or wait for a newer iteration.

Holster case is also on my acquisition list.

Please show off more photos of your Q2 with holster.

I've had a few used Leicas. This is my first brand new one and for some reason it feels much better owning a brand new one. I'd recommend it.

I'll try and get more pics asap of the holster

Q2 is NOT weather sealed. It is, however, rated IP 52 water and dust resistant.

It's weather sealed enough though. I've taped up the speak/mic holes on the top of the camera and I'll be careful as much as needs be

You don’t think a chrome version or the Q2-s variant could come soon?

I was hoping for a Q2-P as I know how awesome that will look, but what’s the point in waiting? Buy what’s out there and get using/enjoying it, unless you have a truly specific need etc.

Nope. The next variant coming out is the James Bond one. Did they announce it officially yet ? Didn’t follow.

Could some Leica leaker disclose me some secret of upcoming releases please. If there is anything coming up (more substantial than the James Bond), I promise I'll buy new.

Waiting to pull the trigger myself. Waiting for Miami Leica dealer to receive it since they’re back order everywhere.

I'm on some back-order waiting lists too, it's been quite a long while now and I'm not seeing any New Q2's here in the U.S.,
although, 2020 was a hell of a year and production slowed for many consumer products.

Leica dealers in Europe, or in paris at least, all have plenty of stock. I bought two in the past two months by just walking randomly in the store.

Good to know some are making their way out the doors at Wetzlar. Perhaps the U.S. will be getting some soon then too.

Speaking to my dealer yesterday, it certainly seems that the UK received most of Leica's stock before Xmas due to BREXIT. Nobody knew what trade deal was going to happen, so they decided to fill the UK with as much stock as possible in order to prevent stock issues. So I'd imagine the rest of the world has suffered due to this sadly, but things will be back on track by March.

Taping up the holes serves no function Speakers and mic will not admit water into the body.

Rumours around the original Q suggested dust could enter it. I see no harm in doing it whether technically possible or not but appreciate the response

Yes - IP 52 means:

Quote
Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact.

But it is highly unlikely that the dust will pass the membranes of the speaker and micrphones. Places like aperture and focus rings or on-off switch are the  suspects

Ingress through the lens is much more likely on a zoom lens or the Ricoh GR setup where the full barrel moves and creates suction. I've put a bit of tape on my camera covering something I'll never use; hardly the end of the world 🙄

That is true about zoom lenses, certainly. However we have had reports on the forum of sand entering the focus ring of Q cameras. I didn't say that taping up your holes was a bad thing, I just said it brings no benefit beyond a false sense of security..

No you said it's "highly unlikely". Plenty of YouTube videos out there show these cameras being abused. If things go bad, there's a service scenario which can be paid for; if they don't, well I got the most out of my money.

It's a great camera; I'm not going to leave it sat in a bag just because of a bit of rain.
