Daniel C.1975 Posted January 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, as fought my thoughts regarding where to move with my SL-Lenses coming from a very complete M-Setup and I've decided to go for 35 and 75 with the SL-Lenses I today took the opportunity to just snap fotos of our dog during an evening couch session after a good days work. After selling some of my m-lenses (35 and 50 Summilux) I know own for my SL2-s the apo35-sl and the apo75-sl. Beside this I still have some wider m-choices and the very nice Elmarit 2.8 90. Here I have used the 35, 75 and the 90. And es this is nice comparison of focal-length I thought to share the pictures. First two pictures with 75mm Apo Summicron-SL @f2.0 Welcome, dear visitor! Daniel C.1975 Posted January 22, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted January 22, 2021 Thanks - I am not quite sure which one I really prefer. I am torn between the second 75mm and the first 35mm. The 90 is in this case for my taste a bit too narrow with too less connection to the environment. And my appologies for the crude, hard to read english in my first post - it's the result of a late evening in-between-typing plus iPad's auto-correction (e.g. now vs. know). Unfortunately I cannot correct the post anymore. Cheers Daniel

chris_tribble Posted January 23, 2021 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2021 Thanks - I'm in the process of getting the 75 APO-Summicron SL and am promised the 35 APO as a rather generous birthday present 🙂. It's interesting to get a fuller idea of the different ways they draw in the same context. Thanks - you've confirmed my choice of these as primes to go alongside the zooms. Daniel C.1975 Posted January 23, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted January 23, 2021 (edited) Hi Chris, you are welcome. Honestly, the 75 is a gem and for me a perfect companion to the 35. Not much you can do wrong here. The more I use these two lenses the more I realize how really outstanding great they are. Attached one of a few self portraits I've made today for our companies marketing department (for professional interviews or technical contributions in industry magazines). Minimum crop on the sides toward a more 4:3 format. Today during a walk I've made a great on fly portrait (upper body with a path to the horizon in the blur) of a very good friend - the 75 is perfect for such things. I just don't want to share a picture from him here without his permission. Back to the 75. I was really thinking back and forth, but am extremely happy that I went for it. chris_tribble Posted January 23, 2021 Share #10 Posted January 23, 2021 Thanks, that’s a great example of how it draws. I’ve moved from Canon 5D4 to the SL2 and desperately needed a replacement for the lovely Canon 85 f1.2 mk 2 I’d been using for portraiture. I am hopeful that the 75 APO will be a great tool.

cheekz4dayz Posted January 25, 2021 Share #12 Posted January 25, 2021 This is so great! Thank you for sharing this! I'm new to the 75mm focal length and I've been playing with it but it's still taking me a while to get used to. My main focal lengths so far in my photography journey have been 28mm and 35mm. So this thread has been inspirational
Torpille Posted January 25, 2021 Share #13 Posted January 25, 2021 I love the result of the 75mm, then the 90mm Elmarit 35 ; 50 and 90 mm is my favorite combo, but i think I will go for the duo 35-75 mm
Vlad Kuzemchik Posted August 29, 2021 Share #14 Posted August 29, 2021 @Daniel C.1975 do you feel any mechanical differences between 75 and 35? I rented 35 in past and now have 90 on rent and feel like 75 would work a bit better for me. Although the manual focusing (neither linear, nor default) doesn’t feel as nice as I recall from using 35. Also I feel like 90mm missing autofocus more often. Since 75 was released even earlier than 90, I’m a bit worried about its handling and performance. Thanks! Hi Vlad, mechanical wise there are in my opinion no differences at all. Only the hood is different, which of course results in a slight different handling. AF etc. is virtually identical. The 35 might focus a bit faster, but I would not bet on it. When having the 35 and skipping the 50, the 90 is generating a for my taste to large gap when using only 2 lenses. So for me, and I was really not sure, the 35 and 75 are a very good two-lens combo. I meanwhile also prefer the for my taste more natural look of the 75 for portraits. I could be not as flattering as the 90, but it generates more natural and interesting results in most of my cases. Of course a 90 would very often also fit very well 😉 Optical wise, both a superb. I know many say that the 35 is the best of all sl-lenses. But the differences, if one heavily seeks for some, can only be absolutely miniscule. Both lenses are insanely good and spoil you for all other lenses. Having used the 24-90 during my last vacation I was really surprised how great this lens ist and honestly, no one needs more image quality ... but, scanning my pictures, the summicron-sl lenses are just better, and suddenly feel so very tiny after having the 24-90 for two weeks on my camera In my opinion, when choosing the right summicron-sl lens, one can just take the preferred focal length and should not and really need not bother over the possible differences in image quality, handling or haptics. They are practically equal. Cheers Daniel sl75mm Welcome, dear visitor!
