shirubadanieru Posted January 12, 2021 Share #1  Posted January 12, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone just wondering if anyone can recommend shops (online) to get vintage lens in the US or other countries outside of Asia (as I'm pretty familiar with the shops in HK & Japan)? I know of Tamarkin / Classicconnection / Leicashop but is this it? Any hidden gems? I've been looking for lens such as summilux steel rim / summilux v2 infinity lock / summicron 8 elements and so on, but I've been seeing them less & less. Any recommendations where to search vintage / rarer lenses would be great! thank you!

tommonego@gmail.com Posted January 12, 2021 Share #4  Posted January 12, 2021 In the US KEH Camera, more generic but always have Leica lenses good to do business with, https://www.KEH.com . Igor's Camera Exchange, https://Igorcamera.com haven't done business with them, but they have more esocteric lenses. Then there are the Leica stores, Miami, Boston, LA.
bags27 Posted January 12, 2021 Share #5 Â Posted January 12, 2021 There are several smaller dealers of old glass in the US. Victory Cameras in Boulder Colorado and tss_photography (on ebay) are both excellent. I just bought two pieces from tss (Tyler) and am extremely happy with them. Jeff S Posted January 12, 2021 Share #6  Posted January 12, 2021 (edited) In US, Popflash sometimes has a gem or two.  Sherry Krauter, who repairs Leica M film cameras and lenses, also sells older Leica gear. zeitz Posted January 12, 2021 Share #8 Â Posted January 12, 2021 Jo Geier's Mint and Rare in Vienna is a pleasure to work with. Igor Camera Exchange is great. Â I do business with Igor Reznick regularly. Kevin Cameras (LA and Hong Kong) has extensive offerings, but Kevin Li will test your negotiating skills against the high list prices. I still have good experiences dealing with MW Classic Cameras in London.

I just found it : ) The price is actually really good (half of what you’d pay for one in Japan). Unfortunately, I found a steel rim and sold all my other lenses to fund part of it  that also means I should not be buying anything in the near future ahah but if there are fans of the summilux pre-asph it’s definitely a great deal, and it’s a lens that seems to be increasing in value significantly too.

As for the non goggled one I have not seen anything under 1,200,000jpy. This is the bare minimum, if you want a mint copy prices will increase a lot from there.

Not a good copy, not a bad copy ! you bought the last ?! 🥴 Reach out to Flashback camera, usually when they post new stock things sell out within minutes, but if you try to reserve in advance that might work & you might get lucky Other thing by the way, from what I was told the v2 infinity lock version has two different batches: Batch one: infinity lock in black paint / brass Batch two: infinity lock in chrome The batch one lens apparently use the same glass as the steel rim whereas batch two uses the same as v2. This might be a myth by the way but all dealers in Hong Kong I talked to told me the same. This lens is uglier than steel rim, doesn't feel as solid & doesn't take filters without hood, but it has the great advantage of being lighter, cheaper & focusing down to 0.85m. Only problem, it's even harder to find than the stell rim ahah

Beside the infinity tab, is there any other difference for shooters? Is the glass the same? Thanks

Thanks You can see my previous reply which touches a bit on that but what I was told the v2 infinity lock version has two different batches: Batch one: infinity lock in black paint / brass Batch two: infinity lock in chrome (the one currently on the website you shared) The batch one lens apparently use the same glass as the steel rim whereas batch two uses the same as v2. This might be a myth by the way but all dealers in Hong Kong I talked to told me the same. The other differences between v2 is 1) it can focus to 0.85m VS 1m on the non-infinity lock and 2) it’s much rarer so expect the price to continue to increase more compared to the regular v2 that’s all really
