JE Posted August 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2007 Pete, This looks like a beautiful place, where is it? I would have been laying in the grass looking up at the clouds. Great photo. I can feel the cool coming up off the water. JE

elansprint72 Posted August 22, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted August 22, 2007 Jonathan, It's Connemara, West coast of Ireland. Keith, I can't understand why we have never been there, until now. It's a pretty fantastic place; not too difficult to get to from where you live- Fast-cat from Holyhead to Dublin, 1hr 40min, then if you drove straight to Galway about about 3 hr 45min, including getting out of the nightmare traffic of Dublin. The cycling Tour of Ireland started tonight on ITV4, its on every night for the next 4 nights at about 19:00 for half an hour; they are doing a stage to Killarney, where we stayed 3 nights (also fabulous scenery) and a stage from Galway up into Connemara and back- that should be worth watching for the heli-shots. Michael-IIIf Posted August 23, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 23, 2007 Pete, This looks like a beautiful place, where is it? The Twelve Bens. In the good-old-days before speed cameras and traffic Galway used to be two hours from Dublin. Carrot Ridge in Gleninagh is one of the best days out on the hills you'll ever get. A nice pleasant Diff climb, a rope not really being necessary, then top out on Bencorr and complete the horseshoe. When you hit Tully Cross for a pint you'll feel it well-deserved. My friend Joss Lynam thought he did the first ascent in 1949 but it seems some blighters from Cambridge beat him to it
