In 2012 I bought what was advertised as an m8.2 conversion from a photo shop now out of business. In 2017 the LCD failed. After more than a two year search I found a replacement LCD. It was recently installed by a reliable camera and electronics repair shop. I have had it for about ten days and just started shooting around the house and the yard. It seems to me the menu now functions differently. I remember when I turned on the camera it turned on in a quickly navigable short menu mode. I had been able to  easily switch between B&W and color, select the ISO, and set user profiles. Now when I turn on the camera I always get the "long" menu instead of the shorter menu. I just looked and the shutter speed dial does not have the "S" Snapshot mode setting which I  never noticed. A strange thing however is that the shutter speed dial only goes up to 1/4000 as with the m8.2 conversion. But again, no "S" setting. The m8 dial of course went up to 1/8000. And the slowest speed on my dial is 8 seconds, which according to the m8 and m8.2 manuals I looked at was not on either the m8 or m8.2 dials. The LCD functions fine as does the camera. I am still lfiguring out larger menus. Any comments to shed some light on this will be appreciated.

It is the way the M8 used to be upgraded in 2008, with a new shutter and a sapphire glass LCD.

I agree with LCT, that's a shutter speed dial from a an upgraded M8 (often called M8u).

Have you checked the serial number engraved on the hot shoe to make sure that your M8.2 hasn't been swapped for another body while it was being repaired?

As far as the short and long menus are concerned I'm a little confused because I've never had either the long or the short (Set) menu when I turn the my M8 on but perhaps I've understood what you meant.  If I press the Menu button I get the full (long?) menu but pressing the Set button brings up the short menu.

Pete.

Thank your for help in clarifying the m8 to m8.2 upgrades. I have the earlier m8.2 upgrade. No "S" on the shutter speed dial. And yes its the same body I sent to have the LCD swapped. The serial number is the same as the one in the original packaging. I reviewed the m8 and m8.2 user manuals. In the m8.2 manual there is a page with Menu Items (see attached) with a chart of Main Menu Items. No similar page in the  m8 manual. Text says that in "S" or Snapshot mode, there is only a single menu containing the shaded items. This is the  "short menu"  to which I previously referred. The next and following pages describe using the camera in "S" mode. According to the manual, the shaded items are automatically set and cannot be manually set. But I remember being able to manually set ISO, B&W/Color, select User Profile, etc. Faulty memory? Again, thanks to  all for your comments. Back to re-learning the menus!

The upgrade program offered the choice of some or all of 3 upgrades: to shutter; to sapphire screen; and to frame lines (optimized for 2m).  But there were still differences between a fully upgraded body and the M8.2, which included snapshot mode as well as a different body covering.  And the black M8.2 came with a black dot (the silver version had a red dot).

It just took me about two minutes to cycle through the menus and remember how to set ISO, color or B&W, user profile, etc. I think I've got it...and no, I never did have access to any short menu, otherwise known as Snapshot mode! Thanks again to all who commented.
