LocalHero1953 Posted December 31, 2020 Share #21  Posted December 31, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder what happens to all these cameras and lenses that people have tried for 30 days and returned. Can you buy them at a discount, or do they pack them up again and sell them as new?

SrMi Posted December 31, 2020 Share #24 Â Posted December 31, 2020 2 hours ago, FlashGordonPhotography said: Maybe it's an American thing? We don't have that in Oz. You can't just return something because you wanted to try it out for a bit. If you use it, you own it. And rentals are more geared to mainstream brands like Canikony. So if I want to try a camera I go to a shop and try it in store. Then say yes or no. A few places are adding 30 day satisfaction guarantees to their sales, especially as many stores struggle to survive in this crazy new world. Most still have re-stocking fees. After all you're making something new into a used item. And I'm not sure how I feel about just returning stuff like that. I get that it's normal in many places and even becoming so here as well as on-line shopping takes over. And if there's no way to see it in store and I'm genuinely seeing if it's suitable. But to just have a play with it when I have zero intention of buying one and making a new product used isn't something I would, personally, be comfortable with. Personally I'd be more inclined to hit up Lens Rentals. I wish we had something like that here. Gordon I like the no-question--asked 30 days return guarantee, as it gives me peace of mind. I would never misuse that offer to test cameras. If too many people misuse it, B&H will have to abandon that customer-friendly service, and the serious buyers will have to pay the price. Because many people are misusing the offer to test cameras, I am worried 😞. That said, I buy all my Leica equipment either from my dealer (Camera West, Walnut Creek) or directly from Leica if my dealer does not receive enough stock. Camera West seems still to have SL2-S available. Edited January 1, 2021 by SrMi

FlashGordonPhotography Posted January 1, 2021 Share #27 Â Posted January 1, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please don't get me wrong. They offer it. It's fine to use that service. *I* would feel uncomfortable. But that's just me and my preferences. Definitely not a judgement on any one else. If B&H and others thought there were issues they wouldn't offer it. And they're big enough to be able to use it while others might go under doing the same thing here. Stuart Richardson Posted January 2, 2021 Share #28 Â Posted January 2, 2021 You are not alone. Even having grown up outside NYC, I never felt like buying a camera to test and then return was good karma. But I do understand hoping you will like something and returning it when you do not. I do think that for a lot of people, it is extremely difficult to have access to gear in person, due to where they live, so in those cases, it makes a lot of sense to me. I have a big challenge with this here in Iceland, where there is almost no stock of anything a bit unusual. Reviews are also almost always inadequate to get an impression of a camera system. About ten years ago I wound up trying the S system in a store, and what I had thought was a ridiculously overpriced system turned out to be something that clearly got things very very right. I am still in the system today. So I guess from my perspective, I would say that the intentions are most important. If you are intentions are pure, you are safe, haha. I have heard of people buying gear to use for a job or two and then returning it, and while this is also, perhaps, within the boundaries of the deal, that seems to me to reek of moral turpitude.
Rob L Posted January 2, 2021 Share #29 Â Posted January 2, 2021 Agreed, that it's become very difficult for most to put a product in their hands (especially Leica) without ordering on line. We have a very good brick and mortar in my town (that I try to support), so I'm lucky, but they dropped Leica, or visa versa. I purchased an SL2 and lenses sight unseen. In fact, I couldn't even find an SL to put in my hands before buying. I ordered the SL2 and told myself that I could return it, but I know if it had come to that, I would just sell it. I would never allow myself to order something with the sole purpose of trying it out though. Even worse are those that buy 2 or 3 lenses and pick the best and return the rest and rationalize this by accusing Sony ( or Leica ) of poor quality control.
Eclectic Man Posted January 2, 2021 Share #30 Â Posted January 2, 2021 Well, I 'justify' my SL2 and lenses by claiming that it is cheaper to run, less damaging to the environment and easier to park than a Ferrari. (Also somewhat cheaper to insure.) Â I have heard a rumour that one can also use it to make 'photographs' (whatever they are) ... ;o) Happy New Year everyone. Â Here is hoping that 2021 will be much better than 2020.
