jplomley Posted December 13, 2020 Share #21 Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Just get the 35 APO and be done with it. I have the 35 Lux for my M10-R and compared to the SL2 with 35 APO, its no contest. Resolution, color, field flatness, zero focus shift, closer focussing distance, weather sealed etc etc....set it at f/2.0 and enjoy the cinematic look that only the 35 APO can create, in any weather at any time! Photos that give the soft Leica micro-contrast are my most treasured. You should consider the 80/1.4 Summilux-R, which ticks all of the boxes above in spades. You mentioned that you felt that the Batis 85/1.5 was slightly long and presumably that would apply to the 80/1.4 Summilux-R but you can always take a step back. (Check behind you first though - we wouldn't want you falling off a 1,000 ft cliff thinking "Oh.". ) An alternative, which would also tick all of your boxes, is the 50/1.4 Summilux pre-asph (E46), which has excellent micro-contrast and is particularly good for portraits of 'ladies of a certain age' because it is sharp but doesn't accentuate every freckle, hair, pock-mark, divot, and tiny wrinkle that these ladies would prefer were not noticeable. Totally logical. And the best fit with the camera, for sure. BUT, it all sounds a lot like my Q2. Will I so readily achieve the “picture-like”, Leica softness with the 35 APO? Does it yield the gorgeous microcontrast of the 35 M? Mightn’t I just as well stick to the Q2 then?

If you’d like some samples I’d be happy to upload a few to Dropbox for you. That would be great! Thank you! Perhaps DM me?

leffe Posted December 14, 2020 Share #27 Posted December 14, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having the SL2-S since last Friday. I have the Sigma 45 2.8. And I am returning it. It is super compact and light, but the Leica 35 2.0 is in another league! Especially indoors with available light the colors are so much better. Autofocus is amazing! Loving it. Totally recommendable.
