Exploring and reading about the SL2-S and looking for advice and comments please to help me choose which SL body is best for me.
Have had original SL for several years - shoot with 24-90SL as well as a couple of ZEISS ZM. Amateur use only.

I shoot 99% still photographs, don’t really understand much about video settings and options. I want: IBIS, improved SL2 grip/EVF/rear screen/menu system.  I don’t print large so don’t ‘need 47MP. I was inclined to get an SL2 and shoot at medium res, keeping high res for specific tasks.

SL2-S has me wondering.....looks like I can get all the upgrades I want and still get high res for specific tasks via multi shot.  I guess the fact that the S is being described as a videographer’s camera is making me question myself.  Anyone else in similar position, any comments?  Thank you

I've got the impression, you answered your question yourself. And you've got some money left for nice things 😉

Ha ha. Not as clear in my head as in my words!  I guess there is a bit of wondering what I am giving up by not getting the SL2. If the answer is resolution but an option exists for multi shot capture on the SL2-S then why aren’t more people claiming the lower price SL2-S as a winner. Maybe it is a little early.

Calling the SL2-S a videographers' camera is a marketing pitch. It does almost all that the SL2 does (and a bit more in some areas), plus has better video capabilities. Even if you don't want the latter, it sounds like it meets your real-world needs.

The biggest improvement for the SL2-S (stills and video) seems to relate to high ISO gains (almost 3 stops over SL2) and corresponding low noise and color fidelity.  So if one shoots a lot in low light, or needs to freeze action in lowish light, then the new version will appeal.  Otherwise it’s about resolution and file size, which affects print size, cropping ability and computer needs (easily addressed these days). Video is outside my use case, but SL2-S seems the easiest choice.

Printing large, cropping, OOF rendering.

I have both bodies here and was planning to go out today to take some images, but it's snowing and relatively cold.  Can you point me to links that show the direct comparison of OOF areas with each body?

The main issue is when you have both requirements. I do tend to print large, ie 24x36", and the ability to crop also means I really don't need anything longer than 90mm. But at the same time I sometime like to shoot in low light / after dusk. I guess the SL3 will probably address both cases in 2-3 years from now. Or one can get both cameras.
