Anyone know where these are available?

It’s a matter of the cameras not having arrived in the US, yet. I have the impression that the dealers in Germany have plenty as no one seems to want them because of the 24 MPx. I just walked into my dealer yesterday and picked one up. He told me, people are asking him why Leica is going backwards. 🤣 I think, I will sell my SL2. It’s for architecture and landscape work which I don’t do.

My only doubt so far is the blocky noise reduction artifacts seen left of the tree on Leica's ISO 6400 milky-way .tif sample

You can turn off the noise reduction though, right?  I'm thinking of buying this camera for just this sort of photography but probably wouldn't if you can't disable the noise reduction.

I coulda been a contender. Yesterday I offered to swap my SL2, direct, cashless, for the second SL2-S at Red Dot. It was declined. Some other lucky person will get it.
At the moment I have no call to use either the SL2 or SL2-S so there's no need to hurry.

Yes, on both SL2s, there is a menu entry to set long exposure noise reduction (LENR) ON or OFF

You could try one of the early adopters on this forum who have purchased SL2Ses but express great skepticism and don't seem to be doing video.  After a period of stimulating exploration, they can retreat to the safety of 47 MPx and you'll have, in effect, an "open box" SL2S.

An offer to swap is worth a punt in the forum classifieds!

My most likely plan, though, is to ebay it - used prices from dealers are above a new SL2-S, so ebay has a good chance of raising the price of the SL2-S.

Question... why do you want the SL2-S over the SL2?? I'm thinking the same... and on a waiting list for the S.

Still not 100% sure I want to swap. Trading 47 for 24... and losing crop-abilty and reach for better high ISO performance and smaller files. And... I don't care about video.

I'm keeping my SL2, and view the SL2S as a significant upgrade to the SLs that I have been using since 2015 or so.  I've sold one of these and will keep the other around only long enough to have some fun comparing all three SL camerass.

I definitely agree with the SL2-S as an upgrade from the SL... better HIGH ISO + IBIS is definitely worth the switch... and if you shoot video, even better.

Better video specs (including no 30 min limit), faster operation, better IQ - and 47mp is a hindrance (processing and storage) and not much of a benefit: I don't like excessive cropping and I rarely print bigger than A3.

For all those with early adopters' remorse: my swap offer is now in the forum 'Classifieds'.

Picked mine up today (Monday) from a Premier Leica dealer in London but too late to take any pictures.  Coming from 5 years of the SL Typ 601, the SL2-S feels very good in the hand, with the scoop-outs for fingers on the grip making a lot of difference to the handling.

I'm glad I managed to pick the SL2-S today because London's going into Covid 'Tier 3' lockdown tomorrow so all non-essential shops will be closed for the foreseeable future.😟

Pete.

Good morning all,

Ordered mine on-line on Sunday via the Leica website that directed me to the Leica London store.  It seemed that they had stock.  I was informed Monday morning it had been parcelled up and was given a tracking number yesterday for UPS - their website shows they picked it up in Frankfurt (Wetzlar???) on Monday afternoon.  It's expected to be delivered here in the UK on Thursday.  I'm intrigued that it's coming from Germany!

Those are special editions. On the bottom left instead of saying “Made in Germany” it says “Shipped from Germany.” 😂

According to UPS tracking service it was picked up in Frankfurt (Wetzlar) at 17:02 on Monday and arrived here in NE England at 10:00 this morning.  That's pretty good going!

On the bottom it says Hergestellt in der Weihnachtsmann-Workstatt .

Ho Ho Ho!!!!
