otto.f Posted December 23, 2020 Share #42 Posted December 23, 2020 I find my SL a bit redundant. When I tried to sell I discovered how low people were bidding on it. So I kept it. My former dealer would say: why sell, there’s no blood running out of it and it doesn’t eat bread. I wonder if OP can sell the Sony stuff for a reasonable price, or is he going to sort of pay to get rid of something
LondonL Posted February 15, 2021 Author Share #43 Posted February 15, 2021 Soo... I bit the bullet and found a near mint second hand M10 body and am selling the Sony gear. I wish I'd gone M digital before, its the best camera I've ever used and apart from a few missed shots of the kids running around, RF focusing is a breeze. This camera just opens up the world of photography which no other camera has done, arguably more than the M6 because of the immediacy of the image. Very happily part of the M digital family 6

Ko.Fe. Posted February 15, 2021 Share #45 Posted February 15, 2021 Not sure were problem was from get go. If you have M6 it is clear how digital M works. Because all M are the same. Some are using film, some have digital sensor with more or less high ISO. This is it.
newtoleica Posted February 15, 2021 Share #46 Posted February 15, 2021 Good move. I sold my Sony set up and a chunk of long collected but little used Olympus OM lenses and bodies. I find a fixed lens AF digital is useful sometimes when I don't want to bring 'stuff' - the Q2. My 'set' of M lenses is 24 Lux ASPH, 35 Lux ASPH v1, 50 APO Cron and 90 Elmarit, all 6-bit. My digital M is the M10-D and I have a pair of film M as I like to shoot different stocks, an M6 TTL Millennium black paint (beautiful....) and a late M7. Somehow I picked up a recently sensor replaced mint M9Monochrom - shouldn't really but its a unique camera. I also have an OM kit (pair black OM4Ti, OM3Ti, OM2, + 21/3.5, 24/2, 35/2, 85/2, 85-250/5) - its cheap and I have shot OM film for 40 years on and off. too much stuff really.... but..

This camera should not be mentioned in a thread about too much gear. Edited February 16, 2021 by otto.f

P1505 Posted February 16, 2021 Share #49 Posted February 16, 2021 I tend to only sell things I really don’t gel with and won’t miss later - like Sony gear. Otherwise I keep stuff and save to buy new stuff, as in the past ive sold and re bought gear a few times. We’d all do different things so I won’t say what I’d sell and keep. But I’d say take the time to really think what you need, what you desire and enjoy using, and the types of photos you want to make.

For me close up photos exhibit too much distortion. Now I use Cron 28 + M-E. Perfect! 🙂

Harvard Kiwi Posted May 14, 2021 Share #54 Posted May 14, 2021 I was very tempted to get a Q2 at first but didn't want to be confined to a 28mm focal length, particularly when 50mm is my ideal. I analysed a lot of photos and some reviews of the Q2 crop mode and they hold up very well. The MP used obviously reduce the more you crop but the Q2 and Fuji X100V both have some kind of crop magic sprinkled on them which helps to maintain IQ for the most part, even in larger prints. I had a person in a camera store tell me that with the crop mode, it was not really different from having a system camera with multiple lenses. It was a bit of a surprise to hear that from someone who worked in a dedicated camera shop and I feel it was an irresponsible statement. While the IQ is usable, what you don't get is the narrower depth of field and the creamy bokeh. Cropping with a Q2 would be like constantly shooting a 50mm while stopped down and that was the final thing I needed to understand before choosing to go with the M.
