<Compatibility of Leica M10 and TOUGH series SDXC card>

When I used the Sony TOUGH series SDXC cards 128GB (SF-G128T) and 64GB (SF-G64T) for the Leica M10-R, symptoms such as format errors and slow writing occurred. When I contacted the Leica Store, I heard that there were some similar reports. There was no problem with the Leica SL2!
The same phenomenon was seen with the M10-P, so it may be safer not to use it unless the firmware version is upgraded.
* In addition, Leica Camera Japan is verifying the operation of SanDisk Japan and memory cards. The answer was that the Sandisk Extreme PRO series was fine.

Sony recalled certain SD cards, so you might want to check if yours applies:

Quote

SF-G Series TOUGH Specification

To check whether your card is affected, look for a star mark and an alphanumeric on the lower corner on the back of the card.

If your card has NO star mark and has an alphanumeric beginning with TV, your card is affected by this issue. (If your card has an alphanumeric beginning with TR, your card is not affected by this issue.)

That may be why I don't have issues as I had to exchange a couple of tough cards earlier this year that I was using on my Olympus, and only bought the one for the M10-R recently, hence post Asterix no Asterix debacle.

Thanks for posting this. I ran into this problem over the last 48 hours with a new to me (ie pre-owned) M10-P and a couple Sony Tough 64GB (SF-G64T) that were just purchased in January. Also worth noting, the problem presents like the main board issues reported in a couple threads here.

My Sony Tough 128 SF-M worked very slowly with M10-P and after a few shots on the M10-R started throwing errors and lockups, then the card was basically dead – reformatting had no effect. Switched to SanDisk and was surprised at how much faster the camera is now – even double-tap to zoom during playback is more responsive.

I hope Leica can do something in firmware to address Sony Tough compatibility since these cards are great in all my non-Leica cameras.

Follow up on this. I had my two cards replaced under the above mentioned Sony recall. They arrived yesterday and I just tested. Still not good. With both cards, the initial format took a L-O-N-G time. With one card, the camera would not shoot at all. A second format allowed it to at least shoot, but then the blinking red light. With the second card, it shot on the first try, but then hung.

So for me, I'll consider the Sony Tough 64GB (SF-G64T) not compatible with the M10-P.

YMMV

Absolutely not compatible. My Sony Tough cards were post-recall, and they were super-slow on the M10-P and unusable on the M10-R.

What? Just bought two Sony TC 128's today for my new P, unbelievable. Must be why there was a $20 rebate.

Bummer – Return them. But this isn't Sony's issue: the Sony Tough cards work amazingly-well on my R5 and GFX 50R, so it's definitely a Leica issue.

My M10-R runs perfectly with the cheap Sandisk 256gb micro-SD adapter card. Go figure.

The list is commercially biased and suggests that the most expensive is the best.  I'm very sceptical and wouldn't buy into the advice.   In fact, I don't think that such advice should appear on the board.

I'm disappointed to see such biased and unsubstantiated advice on the Leica User Forum.

Fully agree.

I just got bit by this same problem with a brand new M10-R. I've tried two different 128GB (SF-G128T) purchased new fall of 2020. They run extremely slow to the point where the camera's blinking red light keeps running even if I turn off the M10-R. I even got an error at one point saying these freshly formatted cards are full. I've tried the in-camera format menu option and the formatting tool that @Max EPRmentioned. Unfortunately the same problem occurs. I used the quick format option. The only option I didn't try is the full "overwrite", but I can't imagine it would be any different. Sad that these extremely fast (and expensive) cards don't work. They work great in Sony cameras no surprise.

Yup, same experience. Red light hell on the M10-R. They worked on the M10-P, just very slowly. I was new to the M, so I just thought the camera was slow. After moving to the M10-R and not being able to use the Sony Tough at all, I was so happy to see the increase in speed with just the cheapest SanDisk 256 card (the "less-good" version that uses a micro-SD card).

The real kicker out of all this is that Keh.com offered me $30 to sell them my basically brand new $200 Sony card. Fortunately I had an older Sandisk sitting around and it works perfectly. I suspect this is 100% a Leica M10 problem because I've never heard of these cards having problems with other cameras (Leica Q2, Sonys, Fujis, etc). Oh well. Time to give them away to a Sony friend.

Oh man, what a gut punch. They work wonderfully on everything else I own. I think I will contact Leica support about the issue. Maybe others can do the same, and we may get a firmware fix.

Count me in on contacting Leica support. I agree that I do hope they can fix this with firmware. My guess is they will tell us to buy a SL2 or a Q2 as a second camera 🤣
