Hello,

Now the M9 has died I’m looking around for a new camera, and although the M10 is the obvious choice I’ve always hankered after an SL. A used first gen is cheap, and I just saw it offers 3:1 mode. Which interest me.

Does this show as 3:1 in the EVF so you can compose properly?

If so, saves me buying an X1D and I can use my M lenses.

I use a SL exclusively, often with M lenses.  But I've never heard/seen anything about 3:1 in EVF.  What is this?

And why would it force you into a Hasselblad?

It’s an ultra wide crop. It’s just great to view it in the EVF. I think the Hasselblad X1D and the Sigma Foveon cameras are some of the only other cameras that offer it. And the Fuji GFX50.

Always wanted an XPan but now I have a Leica alternative. I could crop in Lightroom but seeing it in the EVF is amazing fun.

Camera arrives today so hopefully this weekend I’ll share some examples.

The 3:1 mode displays in the electronic viewfinder and rear screen.  The DNG raw files are acquired in 3:2 full frame and when imported into Lightroom the top and bottom crops to obtain 3:1 aspect ratio are greyed out but the entire full frame raw data file is there so you can recrop even into the greyed out areas.  This is so flexible so even if you have it in 3:1 mode and later want 3:2 , the full 3:2 file is there in DNG. You loose nothing in the DNG raw files.  The jpegs may only be 3:1 .
