All pictures I found from Sigma 100-400m look significant off focus, including all posts in this forum group. The Leica TL 55-135mm is better.

I have seen Nikon D850 and D500 with 200-500mm. Not on resting bird, but eagle fishing. (search youtube for Mark Smith, for example) flying in the speed of thundering.

Is it camera or lens?

I don`t agree with this. I tested mine on the Leica CL and the Panasonic S1R, and there lens is razor sharp and I had no issues with focusing. I published some examples here on the forum also a while ago. Here is an example when I tested it on the CL.

One assumes that the YT channel only publishes their best shots.

That being said, high-end SLRs still have a lead over any mirrorless in term of AF speed. And they don't suffer from EVF delay. Mirrorless might possibly catch-up someday. If your photography primarily depends on AF, you should get Canon/Nikon's latest high-end SLRs (full frame or APS-C).

I think that you may be right with that assertion although the latest mirrorless examples from Canon might cause a re think .

I believe a DSLR is most definitely, the best tool for BIF, sports etc at the moment, with maybe Sony A9/II getting ever closer to that, but your first sentence -

"including all posts in this forum group" simply is not correct.

This thread has many good images, with good focus, though some discussion on whether the lens captures all details, feather/fur that well.  Maybe take some time going through it remembering the way images are rendered here makes a difference.

What I have noticed from looking around at various forums, Flickr etc, is that the lens in it's Sony variation seems to perform slightly better, take from that what you will.  I have the lens and in the main am quite happy with it.

Although my experience with the lens on the SL601 and CL was not favorable and I no longer own it, I posted quite a few photos here shot within seven meters or so, that were focused with critical accuracy.  If you can direct me to any of my shots posted here that are "significant off focus" [sic} without being noted as such, I'd be most grateful.

To be fair to Sigma, I never determined whether the issue at longer distances was a fault of the lens, a matter of sample variation, or whether the CL and SL are unable to autofocus accurately at apertures smaller than f/5.6.

Whenit is off focus, it could be the human being, the camera, or the lens.

No need to point to any specific photo to embarrass the poster. Also no need of any explanations. Simply some good examples will conclude the topic.

You already wrote, "All pictures I found from Sigma 100-400m look significant off focus, including all posts in this forum group."  Sounds to me as though you already  insulted every poster, many of whom are experienced, accomplished photographers.

I requested specifically that you direct me to any of my shots that are out of focus without being noted as such.  You didn't.

These threads are discussion threads, not dedicated picture post threads, and people sometimes post shots to illustrate specific experiences/anomalies encountered with the lens.  There are plenty of good examples even in these threads.  And if you want picture-post examples of consistently good performance from the lens, search for posts by member @lawrence_lee.

The lens is a budget lens, costing a fraction of what Leica telephotos cost.  It is good for what it is.  If you don't like it,  just don't buy it; no need to post baseless criticism of the work of other members.
