Or what’s the point of only using one brand of cameras/lenses when there are so many different ones to play with.

I put a laughing face for this one.

My daughter had a Web Design Class and needed to do the site for a small business. Needed lots of pictures, etc. I have a lot of lenses and cameras, pictures of them.

If I set up a shop-

So- Leica, Canon, Nikon, Zeiss, Zeiss Jena,Minolta,Cosina/Voigtlander, 7Artisans/DJ Optical,Arco, Schneider, Steinheil, Acall,Tanack, Leotax/Topcon, KMZ, ZOMZ, Valdai- All RF coupled lenses, native Leica mount- have been on my M9 and M Monochrom. Some 110 lenses for my Leica cameras.

So- maybe I will use my Daughter's HTML website one day and make a business out of it.

This thread sums up why you shoot with more than one brand on your Leica. WARNING: It can be a VERY expensive read!

I have a number of Leitz 39mm filters as well as a few others made by 3rd party companies. The Leica filters have a narrower rim diameter than the others.

They have an internal filter thread too. What's the point of using vulgar filters when one can have elitist filters anyway :D. Just kidding.

Now imagine a thread with the following title:

What's the point of shooting your Leica M lenses with another brand of digital 24x36mm true rangefinder camera?

That would be an interesting discussion 😀

Which other 24x36 rangefinder cameras did you have in mind?

Funny thought but, oddly enough, there might be a very good reason to use Leitz made filters for some lens/hood combinations.

I have a number of Leitz 39mm filters as well as a few others made by 3rd party companies. The Leica filters have a narrower rim diameter than the others. With Leica filters fitted to those lenses which take clip on hoods (such as the 12538, 12585, IWKOO and so on) the hoods fit on the front of the lens-rim 'properly' - which means the hood slips over the filter and clips on the band at the front of the lens. Most of the 3rd party filters I have share the same diameter as the front of the lenses and, as a result, the hoods cannot slip past the filter-rim and do not attach in the correct manner - one exception being the filters made by B+W.

For use with those lenses which take screw-on hoods (90mm Tele-Elmarit M for example) this makes no difference and so this is where they become useable.

Philip.

Ok. Here is another one.

I am just waiting for the next thread - “what’s the point of shooting with a chinese copy lens hood on your genuine Leica lens ?”

Ha! Ha! Some pretty amazing prices.

Several months back I picked up a 1959 21mm f4 Super-Angulon. Fortunately for me it came with its dedicated hood because some folks think the hood is almost as valuable as the lens;

£460 / $600 for a used hood!...

And yours photography is one of the solid proofs of it. You don't have to be too concerned about providing "legendary  Leica quality", because yours photos and their content overshadowing it.

BTW, every time I'm too afraid to use my digital M in Canadian winters, I have to tell myself - common, Peter took it to the real mountains. :)

Thank you, I take it as a big compliment!

Canon 50/1.2, with home-made hood by fiftyonepointsix, on Flickr

With the price of some of the dedicated lens hoods these days, you need to be creative to keep costs reasonable. It's crazy! Some hoods are 50% or more the cost of the lens. This one cost be $10 and some time filing. The original hood for the Canon 50/1.2 is a Clamp-on, minimize viewfinder obstruction and vignetting. This one, made from a 55mm Clamp-on hood for an Olympus Zoom and a 58mm Chinese Vented hood- $10 total, and about 30 minutes.

Actually with ‘Limited Edition’ Leica lenses you will on the road to making ‘Limited Edition’ prints.
Why, keep them mint in their original sealed boxes and you will get ‘Rare’ prints when you have the courage to take them out and actually use them.

There are alternatives - even made in Germany and in E39 & E46 versions:

I use a genuine Leica IROOA hood on my Chinese made 35mm 8 element Summicron replica...It fits over the genuine Leica filters perfectly!

Me too. I wanted to buy the genuine Chinese hood for mine, but when I found it was going to cost me about £100 I settled for the old IROOA I had lying around.
