Zethustra Posted October 27, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those of you who have had experience with both the Q2 and QP, could you please comment on the paint/finish of both cameras. Is the finish on the Q2 much more likely to chip off or scratch compared to that on the QP? I ask because the pictures I've seen of used Q's look like the paint has chipped off a lot more than that of used QP's. How much does keeping a half case on the camera help with this? Thanks for any input.
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Hi Zethustra, Take a look here Leica Q2/QP finish. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted October 27, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2020 I'll bet the difference in paint chips in the Q vs. QP reflects the ages of the two - The QP released well after the Q
Leica Guy Posted October 27, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2020 I wish the Q, Q-P, Q2 top plate was brass. It would show the love and use over time. Like old M’s.
Herr Barnack Posted October 27, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2020 A half case will protect the portion of the Q2 that it covers but the top plate and most of the front of the camera is not covered. Believe it or not, it is actually possible to use a camera without letting it dangle from its strap, carelessly letting it bang into car doors, buildings, door frames, etc. and collecting a batch of dings and scrapes in the process.

Echo this - I use a Gordy's wrist strap almost exclusively and love it.... I personally dont like the camera flopping around on the strap constantly bumping in to things. Also, I shoot a lot of street - somewhat clandestine - and my strap kept appearing in my pictures!

Correct, i hate neck straps exactly for this reason. I hold my camera in my hand or shes stowed in a small Lowepro camerabag inside my sling backpack. The Grip and the thumbgrip gives me a firm grip and i never dropped either the rather light G2 nor my heavier and bulkier D800 The paint looks more that it wears off than chipping of, my Q had the thumb grip with the paint worn off, but no chips. Chris I use longer neck straps that allow me to wear my cameras cross-body style. A long enough strap lets the camera sit just above my right hip pocket where it is out of harm's way but is easily accessible; in this spot, the camera does not flail about under normal circumstances. When I am weaving my way through a crowd of people on the street or at a street festival or outdoor concert, my hand covers the lens and holds the camera close to my body where my right hand naturally rests. My Q2 currently has a blue/gray Artisan & Artist Easy Slider Camera Strap ( http://www.artisan-n-artist.com/product_detail.php?id=189 ) attached to it that is excellent for cross-body carrying of a camera. That's another solution as well and Artisan and Artists make beautiful things for us. I forgot to mention that i have the finger loop as well, that makes it impossible to drop the camera. This is the way i shoot photos for most of my life and there must be a lot of perfectly new original neck straps for a broad choice of cameras i bought during my life. Like old M’s. Imagine a Q2-P Safari with brass underneath. Always thought that brass + paint that wears off eventually should be included on at least one special edition.

I however am guaranteed to do so, fortunately I’m not too bothered by appearance.
huwm Posted November 23, 2020 Share #11 Posted November 23, 2020 I’ve gone for the easy slider strap to minimise risk however 😉
