telyt Posted August 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the hibiscus next to my barn: R8/DMR, 280 f/4 APO + 1.4x APO-Extender-R I'd like to have gotten a less busy background. I used an exposure of 1/90 sec @ f/8 (f/11 effective) to get a trace of DOF on the bird but this had the unfortunate effect of making the background busier. All comments welcome. Advertisement Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Hi telyt, Take a look here Anna's Hummingbird . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
azzo Posted August 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2007 Doug, The bird stands out pretty well as is, IMHO. Your usual top notch quality. Well Done. Azzo
fernando_b Posted August 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2007 Doug, very nice, but let me write that IMHO this is a little groove in the very high plateau of your usual quality. May be I can't see the yellow-green part of the bird well focussed. Fernando.
biglouis Posted August 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 20, 2007 Imho, to be able to capture this bird and make it possible to for others to enjoy its beauty makes other technical aspects, like background, less important. In a word: wonderful. LouisB
stuny Posted August 20, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2007 Doug - superb, as usual, and the bokeh vs the sharpness of the bird make it work quite well, regardless of its "business."
fotografr Posted August 20, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2007 Nothing about the background bothers me at all. I think the shot is stunning.
flavio Posted August 20, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) i suppose that doug is buying his backgounds in a very special place. unfortunately he did not tell me where to go to buy the same stuff :-)) seriously, doug appear to be a master not just about the subject, but also in the dof, the background and a very friendly mate for his birds in every picture showed. thank you for sharing. telyt Posted August 21, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted August 21, 2007 About the backgorund --- perhaps I'm being overy fussy about it, bit I'd like to have not had the bright spots directly behind the bird and in the upper right area. These are from sunlit leaves that I couldn't get away from without introducing much more background clutter. What I really want is an overcast sky. Maybe I'll get my wish in a couple of months.
