As a child, I always marvelled at the lifeless and austere pictures of empty ancient ruins. These were typically slightly toned B&W images - and would inevitably cause my imagination to run wild.
For better or worse, current Covid-related restrictions imply that most historical sites see far fewer visitors. This means more magic and better photographic opportunities. The downside is that parts of the sites may be closed due to limited staff availability.
These are from a recent trip to Pompeii (usually overcrowded in this season). All taken with the M10 and a CV 35/2.5 LTM. Processed to look like my childhood memories, although I did not reduce contrast or sharpness - nor added grain.
