wilfredo Posted October 11, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) This may seem like a strange post but I'm considering getting an M8, which would require UV/IR Cut filters, and still keeping my Monochrom Type I. I'm wondering if it would affect the focusing on the Monochrom Type I, if I use these filters on the lenses?
Advertisement Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Monochrom Type I and UV/IR Cut Filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted October 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2020 Not really ... the viewfinder is separate to the lens and is optical and even if you have lens cap on, you can still focus. Or do you mean does the filter affect where the focal plane of the lens falls? In which case answer is still no, because the lens designers designed the focal plane for visible light and the IR is cut out. If you use the M8 for IR photography, then you have to adjust the focus away from the optical finders decision of correct focus (IR light is of longer wavelength). Likaleica Posted October 15, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 15, 2020 I never had a problem with that, Wilfredo. Still have my M8 but seldom use it. Great camera, though.
AceVentura1986 Posted October 16, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2020 If you get the M8 for BW work, consider leaving the Ir cut filter off. The results you get will vary depending on the heat source, but the effect on human skin is quite beautiful. It tends to lighten all skin tones and smooth them skin somewhat as well. wilfredo Posted October 26, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted October 26, 2020 Thank you all. It's a consideration. My Monochrom Type I remains relevant, and I need to resist the temptation towards getting more stuff. Nevertheless, this is helpful information.
