this lens has a deep intruding back and can't be used with built-in meter, on M5 the lightmeter won't swing in working-position

on newer or modified lenses.

Hi Jim, your question is often asked and answered by many with their favourite techniques.  You will find it very rewarding to use the search panel. My advice, be guided by the histogram and tilt the camera away from any over-bright light sources when metering before reframing your shot. It applies to most wide-angle lenses.

Yep - the second version was specifically designed to allow ttl metering, originally with the M5/CL, but works with the M6 and later cameras.

From the outside, mounted on a camera, it was intended to look cosmetically similar to the first version, but the back of the lens protrudes into the camera far less, leaving room for the meter to "see" the target on the shutter curtain. The main "tell" is the v.2's much more curved, bubble-like, front glass element.
