Moral? Don't know if there is one (:-) except to enjoy what you have while you have it!

Exactly!!  I have an M6, M8, M9, and M240.  I'll enjoy them all for as long as they will function and when they don't, remember them fondly and move on.  No sense worrying about the inevitable.

The M8 is not serviceable for the sensor or the LCD screen anymore. Can be repaired otherwise but the cost of repairs is expensive generally. My M8.2 got the "coffee stain" syndrome a couple years ago but it disappeared by itself and the camera works perfectly since then. I'll keep it as long as it works but i don't plan to have it repaired in case of serious breakdown. If i were in your shoes i would ask to myself if i need a rangefinder. If yes, enjoy it and touch wood. If not, get the Fuji. Just my 2 cts .

i think with these digital cameras , that they are more expensive to repair then they are worth  after they are a few years old . i have a fuji x100t that

has problems , and fuji wanted  $700 to repair it . the price of leica m's are out of site , and so are repairs .

That some people will get an M8 repaired despite the potentially high cost is testament to the pictures the M8 produces and what it can do that other cameras cannot.  For example, I use mine for its exceptional black and white jpegs straight out of the camera, and for handheld infrared photography.

What's my M8 worth to me?  I couldn't say except that I will continue to have it repaired when needed if the resource is still available long after used 'replacement' M8's have disappeared from the market.

Pete.

The M8 is my only camera at the moment so that’s why I’m concerned.

I've got my M8 in 2007 I've used it extensively and now that I have an M240, my son is using my M8 a lot. Not a single problem in almost 15 years beside of the batteries (you have to change them quite often or you better have five). Never say never, but I think you can rely on your M8 camera. When it dies, just stuff it and display it on your fireplace.

I have only two cameras - the M10M I use daily and the M8.2 for when the rare urge to shoot color. I thought about selling the M8.2 for a mirrorless Sony or Fujifilm because so the excuse goes “I need AF and ibis”.  But I know myself too well and will not be able to resist GAS attacks and duplicate my lenses with another mount. I have invested enough into M lenses and will stop here. My next new camera will be the M11M. Besides the color out of the M8 is fabulous like Kodak film.
