lukahils2 Posted September 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering stepping into the Leica experience. What caused this idea is that I've been looking for a replacement of my casual camera which I want to carry around, shot a lot of random things. Previously, it was a Ricoh Gr, and yes it's a huge leap between many aspect, but it was fine as I used to shot a lot of film as well when i dont carry the Ricoh. I was not satisify with Fuji x100F (feels incomplete), Sony rx1rii (too small body and my wrist is tired after just 10 mins holding it), then I came across the Leica Q. Price is an issue though, i felt like with that price ($4k) I can get a M and a lens(?, or other comparison?), but since I have a Nikon set for other purposes, feel like it will drag me all the way down. However, My ideal camera is getting a monochrome with a 35 or 28 SUMMICRON, but that's over my budget. Do you guys have any suggestions?

jaapv Posted September 28, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2020 Just get the Q2 - a top-end everyday camera with impressive image quality. A lot of money - but not expensive. 1

Craig Clark Posted September 28, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2020 If you cant afford the Q2 you shouldnt have to pay 4k for a used Q. Heck, if thats what theyre going for right now I will sell you one of mine today! Should be around $2,500 to $3,000 depending on condition and what accessories are included. HighlandK Posted September 28, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2020 You say you have a Nikon set for other purposes and that and your comment about a casual camera suggests your Nikon is your 'serious' camera. I had a D850 and have gone to a Z6 having decided that for even 'serious' work 24MP was something of a sweet spot. I have had a Q for a few years and am very happy with its 24MP. Sure I cart more kit when I am out with my Nikon because I have the versatility of different lenses. But the quality of the Q is second to none - perhaps second to a Q2! If a Q2 is beyond your budget a well cared for Q would be an excellent choice and better in a number of respects - unless you are into rangefinders - than an M. A lot of money - but not expensive. What @jaapv said. The Q2 is well worth the asking price of $4995 USD. It is small, light in weight and eminently carryable as a daily carry camera. It would be a great travel camera for a 28mm focal length lover and/or a photographer who subscribes to the one camera, one lens ethos. It is also a great all around camera. The Q2 offers ISO 50 to 50,000, 47.3 mp full frame sensor, weather sealing, image stabilization, virtually silent shutter, high resolution EVF and autofocus. And all that is before we get around to talking about the 28mm f/1.7 Summilux ASPH lens, which would sell for at least the $4995 price of the Q2, if the lens were available separately as an M lens. Bottom line - the Q2 is one hell of a lot of camera for the money. Just get one. You will not regret it.

stuny Posted September 29, 2020 Share #8 Posted September 29, 2020 I suspect you'll not get a response to your Windows question in this part of the Forum. jaapv Posted September 29, 2020 Share #9 Posted September 29, 2020 I fear you’ll find but a limited number of Windows users in this forum. Questions like these are better answered on one of the dedicated Microsoft boards.

Jbirkhead Posted September 30, 2020 Share #11 Posted September 30, 2020 I had a Q and stupidly sold it looking for bells and whistles. I came to my senses and recently bought a Q2. I recommend the Q2 over the Q. It is a very nice upgrade in many respects. If budget is an issue, a Q will do nicely. Very nicely.

That seems to be the advice and experience of many. Problem at the moment in UK is that they seem to be not available - dealers tell me Leica isn't telling them when new stock will be coming. ☹️
ianforber Posted September 30, 2020 Share #13 Posted September 30, 2020 Supply does seem to be an issue. I bought mine last month direct from the Leica store in London simply because it had stock, whereas other stores were out of stock and looked like they were only getting small deliveries every couple of weeks. Leica UK posted it directly to me though and it arrived in two working days so no complaints here.
HighlandK Posted September 30, 2020 Share #14 Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) Yes I think their site says delivery in 2 to 5 days and so postage direct from Germany would fit. Thanks. Even so I would like to be able to support my local store, Ffordes. Edited September 30, 2020 by HighlandK
ruskkyle Posted September 30, 2020 Share #15 Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) There appears to be one in stock here https://www.parkcameras.com/shop/leica-q2-compact-digital-camera_l012650p edit - and at the leica store uk...
