I know that as an Adbobe profile for this lens doesn't exist, one would have to either create their own one or use an alternative ie, for example the ASPH version provided by Adobe.  What a shame, the Adobe profiles for the Biogon and Sonnar lenses work wonderfully, it would be great if only Adobe provided one for the Summicron iv, but alas they don't.  So how do my fellow Summicron iv owners on this forum apply their lens profiles (maybe you don't?).  I'd be interested to hear.

I don`t use Adobe lens profiles. And to be honest I have never explored what they could provide either. My initial thought is that the in-camera lens profile adjustment is sufficient. And Adobe profiles possibly even be ¨overdue¨ if I make further lens profile adjustments.

 

I know I am not answering your question, but you got me somewhat curious about what gain you find in these Adobe lens profiles that you do not already get from camera. Or maybe you use film...?

By the way, the 35 cron v4 is possibly still my most used lens 😀

No idea about LR lens profiles either. Do they correct for distortion? If so, i would avoid the 35/2 asph profile since the lens has not the same barrel distortion as the 35/2 v4. A 35/2 v2 or v3 profile should fit if it exists in this regard.

The external or 3rd-party lens profiles are mostly about things that may occur with any lens and camera - optical distortion being the most obvious, but also lateral chromatic aberrations and the native vignetting pattern.

I don't know about LR, buy my Adobe Camera Raw also provides manual adjustments for all those, so I pay no attention to the profiles.

Not to be confused with Leica's own in-camera profiles, which are all about fixing the color and other vignetting (red edge, "Italian Flag") that comes from interactions between the legacy lenses and digital sensors.

The version iv is supported by Camera Raw, and LR. See the Adobe list: https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/camera-raw/kb/supported-lenses.html#main_List_of_supported_lenses

I find that the profile works fine for both my Version 1 and 4 lenses. Not much adjustment is required in any case – and none were ever available in the darkroom!

You say "the profile", which one would that be exactly?  Summicron iv is *not* on the list you referenced.  In relation to the second comment above, it all came about when I applied the Adobe profile to images shot with a Biogon 21mm.  I was impressed with the improvement and accuracy of the adjustments that the PS profile resulted in.  Same with the images applied to a Nokton 58mm F1.4/ D800E combination.  However, one has to make a decision when in PP as to whether the adjustments take away the character of the image, faults n'all.  With the Biogon it didn't to my eyes.  Maybe it would with the cron iv?  That's hypothetical as a profile doesn't exist.

That was my initial impression too and drove me to start this thread.

Alas, it doesn't.

All responses much appreciated, thanks all! With the Summicron iv very much having it's own personality, I suspect a lens profile may be inappropriate anyway.

Versions smchmerzions, I mis-versioned my new 35, it is a version V, not 4.!  The LR (CameraRaw) profile still does what appears to be a small but useful correction to the image. If I was't happy with that, it would be rather simple to create my own profile for the lens and save it a s preset.
