OR120 Posted February 5, 2022 Share #21  Posted February 5, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) AZN - Old, who''t talking about old You know I think I'm just going to go down this used SL-601 road. I know I'll be happier in the end with a second Leica body. Everything will be easier - charger/battery wise. Thank you for your response. -

ISO 800 on the S1 is only ISO 400 on the SL, ISO 1600 on the S1 is only ISO 800 on the SL, and so on.  Oh man I had no idea ISO was in the infrastructure bill too!:)
Archiver Posted October 3, 2023 Share #23 Â Posted October 3, 2023 Following up from what I wrote in 2020 regarding a secondhand SL vs a new Panasonic S5. I eventually bought a S5 for a number of reasons: lower cost that a secondhand SL, especially with sales and a bonus Panasonic 50mm f1.8 lighter and smaller, which is helpful for travel and all-day carry for work high end video quality and features improved autofocus over the SL flip screen, which is essential for the stills and video work I do battery is backwards compatible with the Panasonic G9, which I still use as a complementary camera M mount lenses are a bit hit and miss with the S5. The image quality suffers depending on the design of the lens, sometimes giving an annoying field curvature to the focus plane, and smearing and other artifacts. The EVF isn't good enough to quickly hit manual focus, either. Old SLR lenses are better on the S5 than M mount lenses, but the EVF still makes it a bit difficult to hit focus quickly and accurately. Give me a rangefinder or split screen any day. I'm definitely happy with the S5 with native lenses, and with manually focusing adapted lenses as long as I have time to do so. The S5 II looks like a good upgrade in terms of autofocus, too.
northernlights Posted October 20, 2023 Share #24  Posted October 20, 2023 I bought a mint full box Panasonic S1 with 800 shutter count for USD 785. Added two 3rd party batteries. Usability-wise, I appreciate the IBIS. Yes, I bought and sold the SL2 used as well that had IBIS but costs a lot more to own. I don’t care about AF because I shoot with manual focus with M-mount lenses and one 300mm f4 Nikon AFS lens adapted with an adapter. Yes, I made money out of selling my M240 and my SL’s, SL2 (all bought used). S1 was a ‘downgrade’ of brand if one wants to see it as that, but an absolute upgrade of usability. The S1 is an uglier, chunkier camera, has a very capable EVF and does what it does and gives me the shots.   Welcome, dear visitor!
