m410 Posted September 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2020 (edited) Leica's 21mm f3.4 SEM. Captures excellent detail and drama when tasked. I also have a 35mm f2 ASPH v2 and my 21mm outperforms it. Also, the 21mm f3.4 SEM is ergonomically very comfortable and nice to travel with if you use your Leica for that. Welcome, dear visitor! Fedro Posted September 14, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2020 Depends on how wide you want. I personally would not mind getting a 28, which for me is different enough to the 35 and makes the most of the RF. The 28 elmarit or the cron. Personally prefer the summicron if you want wider, based on your current set up, and assuming you don't mind slower lenses, I would pick either the 24 or 21 Elmar. They are relatively small, very sharp, and with modern rendering

Leica just discontinued it, but I'm sure many places they still have it on stock. If I don't find any solution for a 24mm, I would skip to the 21 CV 3,5 asph ... Awesome for street photography, cheap, great performance and do the job.

I i have one more offer about 21mm lux ( 4500$ ) . some guy told me new voigtlander 21mm f1.4 is so good. but i have no idea!

Neutra Posted September 14, 2020 Share #9 Posted September 14, 2020 If you don't need the speed, the 21mm SEM is amazing for landscape and architecture. Super sharp, lightweight and great for travel. My approach for a wider lens than a 35, it's to shoot mostly at 5.6/8/11.

Guest Posted September 14, 2020 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2020 I really like my zeiss 25mm f2.8 zm. It dazzles me with its brilliance.
Printmaker Posted September 14, 2020 Share #13 Posted September 14, 2020 I find the spacing between the 35 Cron and the 21 SEM to be perfect. I had the 28 Cron and found either I was cropping slightly to about the 35 FOV or wanting more in the frame... so I traded the 28 for the 21. Now my go to kit is 21/3.4, 35/2, 75/2 and 135/4. (A 50/2, 90/2.8, and 180R/2.8 sit in a case most of the time.) The 21 SEM is a wonderful lens... but it sees more use on my SL due to the artificial horizon feature on this camera. Also, I believe a M camera is best used with 35 and 50 mm lenses. In fact, I find the 35mm Cron perfectly matched for the M10 and the 50 Cron a perfect match for the Monochrom based on both ergonomics, and the type of photograph I use M cameras to make. https://tomniblick.photoshelter.com/index

I also felt I needed/wanted, however, something lighter to match it with Personally I find 21 SEM and 28 Lux to be a great couple, similar modern rendering (which I prefer) but complementary in terms of size, use cases etc Edited September 15, 2020 by Fedro
a.noctilux Posted September 15, 2020 Share #18 Posted September 15, 2020 Kamyar, If it's 21mm that you want, my suggestion would be... Super-Angulon 4/21 (link) Not the best lens but when I use with Monochrom, this lens shines (with flaws of older design like vignetting or curve field). When well used, the "gentle 3D" enhancing the pic can better every more modern 21mm that I use. Not a lens for every one/or user, of course. Learning to use it can take a while for "best results" comparing to modern "perfect lenses". The good thing is this S-A 4/21 can use E39 colored filters, in Monochrom it's a must for me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. yes . This good lens . But my preference is to find a lens with a more modern and modified structure. james.liam Posted September 15, 2020 Share #20 Posted September 15, 2020 (edited) If you’re looking for a single lens below 35mm, you might find 21mm too limiting (because of a too wide angle of view) and 28 not wide enough. 24mm may be the best compromise. For a more modern look and a better corrected lens, the 24 Elmar is still available new at some sellers. If the f/3.8 is too slow, a 24 Elmarit or Zeiss 2,8/25 are great options. As mentioned by ‘Steve1959’, the Zeiss is a particularly brilliant lens; high contrast, very high resolution, saturated colors and much less expensive than the Leica alternatives.
