jplomley Posted September 7, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was out shooting this evening with the M10-R at exposures up to 8 seconds, and did not notice the in-camera noise reduction kick in. Has this been eliminated on the R, or only applied at certain ISO. I was shooting at ISO 100. A quick search through the menu, and there was nowhere I could find that the Noise Reduction could be turned off.
Advertisement Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Hi jplomley, Take a look here M10-R in-camera Noise Reduction. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scott kirkpatrick Posted September 7, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) You're right. I just shot some dark frames (lens cap on, f/16 for 8 sec) on my M10-R. At ISO 100 and 200 there was no noise reductio from taking a second dark frame. At 400 and above, there was. I just received my nice black paper manual. I never expected to open it. but now I will check to see if this is documented. This could be a sensible way in which Leica has responded to those who object to LENR, or wish to make it optional. Edit 1: Read the manual, and tried one more experiment. On page 77, it says the camera will take a second exposure when pictures are taken at low shutter speeds and high ISOs. And on page 81, where the access to shutter times longer than 8 sec is discussed, it says there will be a second exposure for noise reduction by subtraction. I checked at ISO 100-200 and 12 seconds, and LENR was applied. Edit 2: Maybe this has been standard for all Ms since the last firmware upgrade? No, I tried 8 sec at ISO 100 on my M10-D and LENR was applied. Edited September 7, 2020 by scott kirkpatrick 1
jplomley Posted September 7, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted September 7, 2020 Interesting, thank-you Scott. I did not bother ordering the manual having come from an M10. Such an intuitive camera I never even bothered cracking open the M10 manual, but sounds like it might be worth ordering the M10-R in case there are some other yet undiscovered features. If you press the buttons on the back in the order: 1, 3, 2, 3, 1, and turn the camera off it will release a faint Jasmin fragrance. Pete. (I've just made that up of course but I so hope someone will try that ... just in case.) (Cue: a thread about someone's new M10-R not releasing the fragrance and 'should I send the camera back?'. )
scott kirkpatrick Posted September 7, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2020 How could you have missed the LENR wars? Leica slipped in a small bit of reasonable accommodation in this battle, and didn't tell anyone. But I think you've got an error in the Easter Egg for fragrance release. Mine gave off an entirely different fragrance. 1
Guest Posted September 10, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2020 Terrible news,i love my 50 second noise reduction after a 50 second exposure on my m262. So grateful that i cannot afford to upgrade or maybe downgrade to the M10 resolution.
