I have finally filled a major gap in my collection of M cameras and bought an M5 from an Italian dealer. Apparently it comes with a leather strap but that has a health warning, as the leather is very old and frayed. I will order a strap from my usual supplier but Luigi does not list one for the M5. He has made custom straps for me before; most recently one for my Rolleiflex 3003 to use its quick release titanium clips. Could anyone with an M5 (I don't know if the lug sizes are different between 2 and 3 lug cameras but this is a 2 lug) please let me know the width of the slot in the lug?

Hello Wilson,

M5's lugs "holes" are comfortable 12mm wide.

I had more trouble to put the strap in when it's too rigid or too thick as the strap must be put in "curved" to pass the hole.

Strap with 1.5mm thick would be fine.

Nominal 12 is about right - digital caliper on mine gives 11.75mm. I use a 1960s Pentax strap on mine that is 10mm wide. The 1.5 thickness would be good. Here's how I attach mine:

Thanks for the information folks - much appreciated. For the time being for the M5, I have an 11mm nylon strap that came off my Rolleiflex 3003, which now has a lovely Luigi Cresenzi braided silk and leather strap on it, which it needs, given it weighs over 2kg with the 28-105mm f3.3 Rolleinar lens. I will order a suitable strap from Luigi but get it sent to the UK, so it is another thing I don't need to carry home next month.
