I still have the original strap on my CL - plastic, about 3/8" wide. The M5 lugs are similar, and on that I used an old Pentax strap - same width - that would loop through the lug and attach to itself with a rivet-type connector. If you can find a thin enough leather strap, wrap through the lugs and sew the end back to the strap.

Another option: I have a nice half-case for the CL that has metal strap loops on it (both sides at top). I got it from eBay seller Mr. Zhou (Zhou Camera Case) several years ago. I don't see that case shown in his store now (but does show a CLE case), but you could contact and see if they still offer it. I can post a picture of it later. I use their cases on several cameras.

thanks! i found a rope strap with cord loops on the ends like a peak anchor but without the quick-connect. the cl is quite light and the cord won't wear the lugs, so it should be fine.

tks @TomB_tx! any idea what strap will work with the vertical lugs on the cl? i've looked all over and an original one just isn't to be found and i don't want to risk getting one too wide to fit through the lugs. i could use a regular strap, but the metal split rings would eat up those lugs.

tks, /guy

Luigi in Italy does a half case with fitted strap which allows the camera to be carried horizontally but, as with all his cases, it is quite pricey. I have one for my CL and it is superb.

i have a very nice half case for my digital cl, but i'd like to carry this film cl vertically. i haven't done that in a long time.

I don't know about the Leica CL, but Will Manen in the Netherlands can solder in a zenerdiode in some the old meters and then you can use regular 1.5V batteries. I've done it for my Leicameter and that works really well. I was quite dissapointed with the weincells.

Yeah you can easily solder a diode inline to then use those passive adapters.

BTW I got tired of the 50mm frame lines in my CL, and yesterday removed the top place and masked them off. Given I only use the 40 and 90 on it, those extra lines were annoying. Here is what the finder looks like with the 50mm lines masked off.

well, i decided to bite the bullet and get the mr-9 adapter so i hit the japan sites on ebay which were the only sellers. well, there was  one in poland, i think. i just chose the one which promised the fastest delivery and it was like $40 + $20 shipping. a few hours later i got a message saying that the japan postal service was shut down due to covid and that i'd have to pay another $13 for dhl shipping. i've been been shaken down by an ebay seller before and i considered this nothing less than blackmail. i requested on ebay and via message to them to cancel and refund but i was still pissed and asked ebay to intervene and sanction this seller. they refused and said that the rules said he had 3 days to respond and i asked them if it was against the rules for such a shakedown and of course they had to admit it was. so there it is, the rules protect the seller but not the buyer. pr1cks.

anyway, by accident i came across a familiar japanese ( or singapore? i think that's where it's shipping from) name, japan camera hunters and they had the mr-9 battery. it was $40 + $22 dhl shipping, but i ordered one from them as i think they are reliable. at least more reliable than some ebay crook. i told the worthless ebay csr that if i didn't have a refund processed by the end of the japanese business day i'm stopping payment.
