Guest Posted August 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Would any owner be so kind to post a picture of this combination? I am particularly interested to see whether the camera still can sit flat with this lens attached. Also happy to read about your experience in terms of achievable image quality. I have seen some pictures here in existing threads that seemed to show severe CA problems. But these may only show up in extreme cases. I am looking for a M-mount lens with 21-24mm equivalent focal length for my CL. The 15mm III Voigtlander is one candidate, the forthcoming 4.0/14mm Laowa lens another (but I don't like that its aperture ring moves in the opposite direction of my M lenses). I rule out previous versions of the Voigtlander 15mm lens because in future I may use this lens on a digital full frame camera as well and I don't want to deal with red corner problems. EUSe Posted August 30, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2020 What is wrong about the 11-23 mm TL? Maybe too large? Did you consider the Leica WATE 16-18-21 mm? It works well with the CL body.

It works well with the CL body. Probably nothing. But I would like to stay with M lenses. I don’t have any TL lenses and prefer not to mix AF and manual lenses. Too confusing for me. WATE: too large and I already have a 21mm lens. Thanks! Edited August 30, 2020 by Guest

Marac Posted August 30, 2020 Share #9 Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) Your choices are a bit limited. I found the 15mm mkIII here https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-leica-lenses/voigtlander-15mm-f-45-vm-super-wide-heliar-iii/sku-1019297/ The only other option I can see would be the Zeiss 15mm but it's large and expensive however, it is a stellar lens. ETA - The Sigma 16mm is native & AF but can be used in MF mode, again, although light, it may be too large for you too. Jim-St Posted August 30, 2020 Share #10 Posted August 30, 2020 I find the CV 15mm v.1 works just fine on the CL, and certainly won't overbalance it. It's an LTM lens, but easily adapted to M-mount. Some knock Voigtlanders, but others rate the CV15 as a Mandler-grade optic Jim
Gregm61 Posted August 30, 2020 Share #11 Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) I bought the M to L mount adapter and have tried several of my M lenses with the CL, including super-wides like the 21 and 18mm Super Elmars but none work as well as the 11-23mm f3.5-4.5. If all I were ever going to have was M lenses I simply wouldn't waste my time with the CL and just stick with an M body or.....possibly....pick up a used SL so the lenses at least produce the field of view the were designed to give. Like-wise, there's not an M lens out of the dozen or so have ranging from the 18mm Super Elmar to the 135mm f3.4 APO Telyt I would substitute for the 11-23, 35/1.4 and 55-135mm three lens combination with the CL. That's a bit harsh. Like you, I have a few M lenses and they all perform very well on the CL. I don't feel like I am wasting my time at all.
tommonego@gmail.com Posted August 30, 2020 Share #13 Posted August 30, 2020 I too have been working mostly with prime lenses the only zoom I have is a Nikon Tokina 11-16 f2.8, it is a tough lens to use on the CL but nice if you can deal with its excentrities. But I am thinking of the 11-23 or 2 CV lenses the 15 and 12 or 10mm, to stay with primes. Pluses and minuses for either choice. The nice thing about the CV lenses is I could use them on my M8 and M3. lct Posted August 30, 2020 Share #14 Posted August 30, 2020 Never had the feeling to waste my time in 15+ years with my crop brodies (R-D1, M8-2, Ricoh GXR, Fuji X-E2, digital CL). None of my M lenses from 15mm to 135mm proved inferior on the CL. I just miss my S-A 21/3.4 which protrudes too deeply to be used on it.
Gregm61 Posted August 30, 2020 Share #15 Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) I like shooting wider than 24mm a lot and often use lenses like the 21 and 18mm Super Elmars on my M262, aften with just the 35mm f1.4, so the M lenses, for me, are a total waste of time on the CL. Even the 15mm Voigtlander only captures a FOV just barely wider than my 24mm Elmar on the M262. I will admit, am fortunate to have been able to assemble a full set of both lenses for both the M and CL. The 11-23 on the CL gives me access to five M focal length equivalents, the 18, 21, 24, 28 and 35mm lenses, without the need to change a lens or carry that many lenses to have access to an uninterrupted range of focal lengths so yes, the M lenses for me on the CL are a waste of time. I didn't necessarily think so at first as I did buy the Leica adapter, not some cheap knock off, but after having tried it compared to just using the 11-23, yes.....waste of time, not even considering how much lighter a CL with the 11-23, 35/1.4 and 55-135 are compared to a less versatile 3-4 lens M262 setup. lct Posted August 30, 2020 Share #16 Posted August 30, 2020 Matter of tastes. I will never use big lenses on compact bodies. Don't like much zooms and AF either even if i use them for P&S. I don't say that i would be wasting my time with SL or TL lenses though, even if i think it loudly . Just kidding.
ramarren Posted August 30, 2020 Share #17 Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) I don't have the Voigtländer 15mm III, I had the 15mm I and it was a decent if not outstanding performer. What I bought for the CL is the Voigtländer HyperWide 10mm f/5.6. It is quite similar to the 15mm III in dimensions: 15mm III: Dimensions (ø x L) 2.6 x 2.2" / 64.8 x 55.2 mm Weight 8.7 oz / 247 g 10mm: Dimensions (ø x L) 2.7 x 2.3" / 67.8 x 58.7 mm Weight 11 oz / 312 g And here's a composite of the CL plus the 10mm lens: Welcome, dear visitor! The V 10mm lens nets a field of view equivalent to a 15mm lens on FF with the Leica CL. It also covers the full frame of a Leica M camera well, and even performs remarkably well when adapted to the Hasselblad 907x 33x44mm sensor, albeit in this last case there is a good bit of vignetting due to the permanent lens hood stubs. I had the WATE at one point and, while it is a super performer, I didn't really love the lens for one reason or another. That was when I had the SL. For the CL, I wanted the same ultra wide FoV and a 10mm was called for. I'm very happy with this lens. cp995 Posted August 31, 2020 Share #18 Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) I really like my Heliar 4.5 15mm III, I'm using it with my Nikon Z7 and my CL. It's better corrected and sharper in the edges than the version II, which I owned years ago. But also a bit bigger (more glass) Welcome, dear visitor! No, not 100%. There is 1mm space between the Lenshood and the table. Don't understand your question, why is this important?
