marcg Posted October 10, 2020 Author Share #21 Posted October 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Certainly, if no one with experience comes along and explains why it couldn't be used, then I think it would be worth trying. However, in terms of "putting it on" and then wiping it off. I think it needs a more delicate approach. I think you should apply it to your finger and then rub it into your fingers so it really is just a tiny piece of shining on your finger and then rub your finger onto the areas of contact on the lens mount. It may be possible to find the areas of contact by putting some pencil on the lens mount and then seeing what is rubbed off on you try to fit it to the camera. This would give you a clue as to where to smear your finger.
Advertisement Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Hi marcg, Take a look here Pinhole photography – images. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marcg Posted October 10, 2020 Author Share #22 Posted October 10, 2020 I think that you should be seeking simply to make the lens mount "shine" rather than showing traces of lubricant. You can then test to see if they improve the situation and then decide whether or not to add more "shine" or not.
Gerbs Posted October 10, 2020 Share #23 Posted October 10, 2020 Pencil probably not a good idea, with getting graphite dust into the camera. Agree that the idea is to use as little lubricant as you can. Keep us informed, and let's see some photos!
marcg Posted October 10, 2020 Author Share #24 Posted October 10, 2020 (edited) Sorry but I have nothing to keep you informed about. I don't have a skink lens – although I just ordered one. Edited October 10, 2020 by marcg
marcg Posted October 10, 2020 Author Share #25 Posted October 10, 2020 Also, I was hoping that you would try first! So I could learn from your mistakes
Steve Ricoh Posted October 10, 2020 Share #26 Posted October 10, 2020 I’ve had the M Skink for about 2 years now so I don’t think I could ask for a replacement. Sometime back I read a tip about transferring skin oils from the face, for example, to the lens or lens mount. What are you thoughts on that?
marcg Posted October 10, 2020 Author Share #27 Posted October 10, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I think if one is going to go down that road then non-organic silicon going to be a much more preferable route. Ecar Posted August 15, 2024 Share #36 Posted August 15, 2024 As part of a deep basement dive, I just retrieved my Skink Pinhole, which had been patiently waiting for several years. Here are a few shots on the M11M (the first two likely with the pinhole attached to an OUFRO or the macro adapter, can't remember) using the standard pinhole plate. All handheld at ISO 20,000 pushed 1 to 2 stops in LR - and speeds between 1/12s and 1/20s. This is fun: I will keep experimenting with the other plates (and better subjects...).
