analog-digital Posted August 19, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everybody Does anyone have a defective DMR where the functioning batteries are no longer needed? Possibly with charger? Does anyone know how to change the battery yourself and, above all, how to open the case? Does anyone have a good source ONLY for battery packs (no Refresh), i.e. for DIY? -->> As far as I know, these batteries were also used in the video area. Does anyone know which brand? GregNski Posted August 19, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2020 DMR batteries show up on eBay from time to time. No idea if they are any good or not.
Bobitybob Posted August 19, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) The battery case is glued together but can be opened with a sharp knife/scalpel if you are careful. Inside you will find 2 Panasonic 2323, 3.7v 2000mA (soldered together in series) and a charging/protection circuit board. There was a battery supplier in China selling them on eBay recently and you will probably be able to find them in Europe but they are expensive this way. Just to make it more difficult they need to be fully charged (at 3.7v) before being soldered in series otherwise they will never charge properly later. They are also unprotected so you need to make sure you don't short them in the process or they may catch fire. Once connected to the battery pack circuit board they can be charged as normal. You can use 3.7v LiPo batteries instead and these can be got for a lot less money and tend to come with a protection circuit built in to prevent accidental shorting and over charging. There are a number of threads on DMR batteries which if you look contain info about companies that will do this for you at a cost, which may seem a lot to swap some relatively cheap batteries but it could save you burning your house down 🤪 Edited August 19, 2020 by Bobitybob

wlaidlaw Posted August 25, 2020 Share #5 Posted August 25, 2020 If you look at Panasonic's industrial battery web site, https://industrial.panasonic.com/ww you may find a battery of equivalent voltage and capacity that can be used in place of the obsolete 2323 battery. Battery technology has moved on since the DMR batteries were designed and you should find a 3.7V battery of the same or smaller size with a greater capacity than the original 2323. It is not a huge job to replace these batteries and if you have neither the inclination nor the equipment to do this yourself, there are various small companies specialising in resurrecting old electronic equipment, who would be able to do it for you. I replaced the cells in the battery pack of my Rolleiflex 3003 system camera and the new Panasonic-Sanyo Cadnica cells of the exactly same size as the original NiCad cells are 700 mAH rather than 500 mAH. I bought another Rolleiflex 3003 battery pack, where someone else has replaced the NiCad cells with NiMH cells presumably to get longer battery life but without checking the exact size of the individual cells. The NiMH cells are 0.3mm larger diameter than the Cadnica cells, which means that the latching clips for the battery pack do not clip into the camera body 100% securely. I am going to have to remove the cells and replace them with the correct lower capacity but fractionally smaller sized Cadnica cells. The moral is check the size very carefully of any cells to replace the 2323 cells. Smaller works, as you can pad out the smaller cells but bigger doesn't. Small Battery Company in the UK and Farnell are other good sources for tagged industrial rechargeable batteries. Panasonic wanted €35 each for two replacement NiMH batteries in one of my rechargeable electric razors. I bought them from the Small Battery Company for £4-50 each.
