As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! A beautiful photograph, but it seems much more pure Zen than Wabi-Sabi. Really lovely. And the light bokeh dot just completes it. Maybe we need a Zen thread also!
docmarten Posted August 16, 2020 Share #23 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) To realize the principles of wabi-sabi in an art work is hard to achieve and exeptional. If (you) succeed everybody will see it like an arrow hits the target. Without the cultural backgroung (not just by birth but by studying) it is impossible to picture. But: Photography is the only medium in which art can happen by chance. That means: Study hard (! not "Wikipedia" 😉 and be confident to get the point once. Note: To realize wabi sabi means to open a space of connotations not to point out directly to imperfection, transience etc. In the posted photographies I see the finger, not the moon. My stupid try? I guess, film can be helpfull... Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Ohne Titel by Martin Hufnagel, auf Flickr Not a bad stupid try. I think the photograph itself is more wabi sabi than the subject matter is, so it becomes almost an abstraction of wabi sabi, to my way of thinking. That might mean that your photograph is at a higher level of wabi sabi. If there was a bit more inherent beauty in the chips, to match the inherent beauty of the surface... well then it might have gone from stupid to sublime. That's a compliment, by the way.

True, they are human constructions that don't have anything to do with living in the moment and being receptive to everything around you, but they are useful words when hoping to communicate, each with different nuances. The Tao that can be defined is not the Tao. People still write books about Taoism, and Zen, and Wabi Sabi. I am a big fan of Zen. :) !

Got it, thank you! But I am far from understanding and it is much easier to discuss the topic in its negation. Something about form (inherent beauty) by D.T Suzuki: The perfection of form distracts from meaning (or so, I reach the borders of my english knowledges).
