I am thinking about selling my M7, and would like to hear what some opinions might be as to its value.

Particlars

Black M7,

.72

early model purchased new in dec 2003 (pre MP viewfinder)

condition; very good.

I might be willing to sell it this month or next.

I don't check in here often, so I apologize if this is covered elsewhere.

If this belongs in a better location I would appreciate knowing where.

I looked on ebay, but i don't know if they show a history of items sold and how much.

I thank you in advance for any help

Yes you can search sold items on e bay, which is your best way to get an idea, then list it on the for sale forum here. You can't compare directly to dealers prices because they will offer g'tees and have to pay tax let alone make a profit, but you can use them as a guide, just google it all.

Obviously condition is THE factor with Leica items. Your idea of good condition might mean anything, so again you are best off comparing to actual items for sale/sold, and posting photos when you list it.

I'd start at $2500 or best offer and go from there Craig. If you need to sell it fast put it up at $2000 and it'll be gone in a day or two.

Best places to price lenses, updated recently, is here:

Leica M Lens Price Guide

Put your add in the Buy/Sell Forum, not here on the Customer Forum as Andy indicated.

Good luck.

Thanks.

There is a classifieds section here but to be honest I haven't seen any M cameras sell. I've had my brand new M7 up for a month now with no takers and all the other M cameras people had listed at that time are still up for sale as well. I don't think many people here are aware of the classifieds section. I'd try eBay but keep in mind that between them and PayPal the fees can be rather high. There is an auction site that deals specifically with cameras called Camera GAS but I don't know anything about it. Some dealers will buy M cameras but you will make more selling it direct.

On e-bay, go to Advanced Search and choose completed auctions - then you'll see a list of finished auctions and prices achieved.

Why do you want selling your M7?

The second hand buying price in Holland is about € 1750,-

You could also have a place like ffordes sell it for you on commission. It will cost you 30% but as they will take all the hassle and the guarantee out of your hands it is well worth it, especially as they can demand a higher price than you could yourself, exactly because of the guarantee and their reputation, making your "loss" (or investment in an easy sale if you want to look at it another way) something in the order of 10-15%.

Why do you want selling your M7?

...obviously because you said in another thread:

"In fact the M7 is a bad camera!

You cannot make of the mechanical M Leica an electronic version!

The M7 is a 'trouble' camera !"

Bill

A whole lot of things, I suppose - scammers - fake buyers - renegers -fraud - complaining buyers - crooked sellers etc. I like the place though :)

Funny - just like the real world. By the same token substantially used by honest people, just like the real world.

...much higher general interest in film M cameras.

Also they have a comprehensive feedback forum by members who have bought and sold from each other.

That's debatable.

And I'd put the level of experience and knowledge about the M at much greater over here than at RFF; not that I want to bash those guys because I enjoy looking at what they are doing from time to time. Same with the LUG and Photo.net--usually just not the same level of discussion going on, nor the level of civility.

Anyway, it's not something that belongs here stealing Craig's thread about his M7.

The second point is something for Andreas to think about; although this community is usually pretty vocal when they've got an issue about commerce.

See: GiftSix.

Thanks.

"Why do you want selling your M7?"

For me a rhetorical question :)

Thank you, everyone, for all the help and advice.

as an aside I did not ask this in the buy/sell section because I was not ready to actually post a "for sale" ad, rather, i was just looking for a ball park value before placing the ad, and I did not see an area in Buy/Sell where you could actually ask about values before placing the actual ad and i did not want post in an inappropriate forum

Thank you all, again,

craig
