count_greebo Posted July 17, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now that Leica has made the 24mm/3.8 and the 24mm/1.4 EndOfLife and not available anymore: Does that mean that they're abandoning the focal length for the M or is there something coming? Any ideas or rumors? Best cg

lct Posted July 18, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2020 The Cine 24/1.4 is still available AFAIK. Has an M mount and should work on M cameras as well. I have no experience with it though. newnew Posted July 18, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 18, 2020 There are contradicting information about the 24 Summilux. In France and Switzerland the Leica stores did not hear about an end of life. This said there are several 24's available on the second hand market, most of them in good condition. As the Summilux was used by the photojournalists some copies may be in dare need of an overhaul though. I personally like the 24 mm and believe it will remain as a special view angle with an own signature, as adopted by some great pros. In the context of the proliferation of the images with the 35's and 50's they provide a fresh point of view. As to the difficulty to use with an additional VF, it is interesting to see that the people who use the 21's never complain about it. So , for me , no real argument.
CharlesL Posted July 18, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) Peter Karbe in his recent presentation ( https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/311355-peter-karbe-talk-about-lenses/ ) pretty much confirmed the 24/3.8 and the Summarits will no longer be produced. He said the sales just were not there. He called it a shame, but he mostly went on to praise the Summarits, especially the 75. They aren't coupled - no mention in the official tech docs, which are very detailed - and indeed they are made for video usage (adapters available for Full Frame video cameras) though can be surely used on a M as normal taking lenses.
