earleygallery Posted July 18, 2020 Share #21 Posted July 18, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm curious as to why a 'short recharging box' is something to be miffed about? Most stuff now comes with some sort of 'quick setup' guide and the full instructions are online. At least Leica will send a hard copy manual on demand although it was bad form that your dealer didn't tell you this - in fact dealers should carry a couple in stock for customers that ask. IkarusJohn Posted July 18, 2020 Share #23 Posted July 18, 2020 The X1D II came without a manual - I read the manual in GoodReader. The manual was updated with firmware updates, which was a pleasant change. I do wish Leica would pay more attention to the manuals - actually checking them for accuracy and updating them in the PDF. Using a variety of cameras, I often forget which cameras have in camera charging. Headed off on a trip once with the SL, two batteries and a cable, to find that it did not charge in camera. Leica will, one day, have a consistent approach, I hope - all cameras USB-C or 3 or whatever it’s called, with in camera charging, click in/click out battery (S, SL, TL ...), and the same battery would be nice, but perhaps too much to ask ... they could put a bulge on the right hand side of the M (hand grip) to accommodate a larger battery, couldn’t they? Jeff They do not :(. You need to create your own addendum based on firmware notes.
Fontan Posted July 19, 2020 Share #25 Posted July 19, 2020 It would be kinda cool if manuals can be accessed thru the app on the phone or iPad.

I prefer to have it more versatile and platform agnostic like it currently is, just download to your device (pull down the pdf off of Leica’s site https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-SL/Leica-SL2/Downloads), use an pdf reader to access. The PDF is searchable as well. It would be great to update the manual with revisions, updates, and include a change list, and than tag the version# if changes occur. Now THAT would be really cool! Always have the manual associated with the current firmware of your camera ready in the app... Why don't the developers think of such a thing... I think the current solution is fine, a PDF is highly versatile and you can put it on your phone, tablet and so on... and save the trees. I enjoy having it on an iPad, searchable for topics or terms. BUT I also absolutely hate trees and I don't like breathing at all... so I want them to die and ordered a manual... It's an option and it's good that it's there. I got the M10-D so I could get away from screens for a while and it felt natural to have a paper manual 😂 And in the almost two years since the camera's launch the manual didn't become outdated. I think it being outdated immediately after the first firmware update is a bit exaggerated... Maybe I'm just fine with this since mine arrived so quickly... I understand they can't update the printed version all the time... but they REALLY should update the PDF versions... it being available in the app would just be the perfect solution, but oh well... If they would include manuals in the box, only for 83,7% of the buyers not to read it, that would be a waste. I think it's fine as it is now... (Seriously someone please plant the idea with the app-manual in their heads...)
zone7 Posted July 26, 2020 Share #28 Posted July 26, 2020 As I recall, the B&H website has a full Leica SL-2 Instruction Book that one can consult or print out.
Flyer Posted August 10, 2020 Share #29 Posted August 10, 2020 (edited) I have never used a manual, mainly because I would never have it with me when I needed it. Its only by using the camera for a while that you start to see what aspects you need to explore further, at that stage it's worth just looking it up on Google or in the cameras PDF manual. Instruction manuals look useful but in the real usage world there not really. I think it's more of a presentational thing than a practical solution. We should thank ourselves lucky some manufacturers are no longer including a battery charger🙄 Edited August 10, 2020 by Flyer
Eclectic Man Posted August 10, 2020 Share #30 Posted August 10, 2020 My SL2 manual in English took only a few days to arrive from Germany. However, like the pdf online manual, the connectors on the left side of the camera are neither pictured nor described (although fairly obvious what they are). RoySmith Posted August 11, 2020 Share #31 Posted August 11, 2020 I too like the pdf user manual. I can search quickly for something and when traveling have it on the iPad. I wish they would update the online user manual when firmware updates are released, but this doesn’t occur. Have not felt the need for a paper user manual.
