photoarne Posted August 15, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted August 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it possible to make a decent image through the hazy, dirty window of a regular airplane? Well, here's a modest attempt. M8 with Zeiss 25 mm.
Advertisement Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi photoarne, Take a look here From an airplane.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted August 15, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted August 15, 2007 Arne - Â Very nearly there, and the basic image is quite good. It's difficult to do, but sometimes you can improve the situation by moving all around the window to where there are minimal problems. Regardless, the tinting in the window frequently throws off the balance, too. I almost always do post processing for photos through airplane windows. Here I did a slight exposure adjustment, slid the shadow and highlight sliders a bit, and cloned out the crack in the window (which I could do better with more time and skill). Chuckcars Posted August 16, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted August 16, 2007 Am not in agreement that it is a crack in the window. Looks like a ship at sea to me. Not much else you can do shooting into the sun through an airplane's double window.
cbretteville Posted August 16, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted August 16, 2007 Arne, Glimrende! I know how difficult this is to do. The adjustment Stu did makes it even better. The 'crack' - which to me looks like at ship at sea - makes the shot IMHO so leave that in. Â - Carl
carylwithay Posted August 16, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted August 16, 2007 I agree with Carl on this one. I like Stuarts adjustments but I like the ship at sea too. Caryl
stuny Posted August 16, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted August 16, 2007 Arne - Â It took Chuck, Carl and Caryl's sharper eyes to make me see that the "crack" most definitely is a ship at sea. I agree it belongs in the photo. Here's another without my foolishly removing the ship.
photoarne Posted August 16, 2007 Author Share #7 Â Posted August 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks everyone for comments and suggestions, Stuart you're certainly not afraid of upping the saturation & contrast! Mine was perhaps too restrained, your version is a more striking image, no doubt.
Marquinius Posted August 16, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted August 16, 2007 I'm flying a lot in small aeroplanes and - what else - take a lot of photo's. But this one beats all of them! And it's fun reading how everybody is looking at the picture and trying to enhance it even further. Great ! I wish there were more of these open minded conversations, as that's where I get to learn from it. And there's still a lot to learn.
wda Posted August 19, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted August 19, 2007 Fascinating exchanges in this thread. It does emphasize that results can vary according to one's perceptions and preferences for colour richness and tone. I like the picture and think you did well to capture so much information.
