Not a bad idea; the protector, might try that route

What about the Q2 holster? It covers the dot completely. There might be other, non-original protectors that do the job.

I think that Leica makes special tape for the purpose. Of course, it has red Leica dots printed on it. It will make people think that you are trying to pass off a Fuji as a Leica.

Thanks for all the replies. The camera has now arrived and the red dot is much less conspicuous than I imagined; somehow it looked much bigger in the photos online.  For the time being I am going to live with it 7 see what happens.

I’ve used these vinyl stickers to cover the red dot.  I found them on Etsy.  The 1/2” size works perfectly on the M10. I also put one on each side to protect where the strap rubs. They stick well, and it takes a good fingernail on the edge to release them. However, I’ve never had any glue residue left on the camera body.  They’re cheap so you can experiment to see if it works for you.

I am asking myself two things:

1° would a snatch thief know what the red dot means
2° woud he rather find a victime with a DSLR and a big zoom lens than a person with a small, square camera

I have not taped the red dot and i use my Q/Q2 in all places but i carry it in a not on the first sight visible photo bag or backpack.

It is my experience that a concealed carry in a rather cheap standard bag or purse will attract less curiosity.
Well one i have the camera out of the bag shes visible, but i don't belive that a snatch thief will know the price difference between a Q/Q2 and the Fuji or similar shaped camera.
I photographed with my panasonic LX-100 on the Mercado Central in San Jose - Costa Rica where all guides tell to not go even naked and i had no issues.
But i would never do that with a SLR as - even not true - they look much more expensive than a compact camera.

Just my personal belive

Chris
