...buy smart, Fielden. Get an MP, take the batteries out to satisfy your current 'battery-less' requirement, while retaining *all* your options. Good luck.

An M-A and a handheld meter would give you one more option - incident metering.

Any working film M with 35mm framelines and RF is good.

But after you get one, how are you going to get darkroom prints? Space, enlarger, chemicals, paper...

I do print in DR and I do inkjet prints. Scan prints are not very different from DR prints.

And to be very honest, I have seen Monochrome prints and all I could tell, you have G.A.S. for next to none practical reasons. :)

Having sold a lot of cine gear these past couple of weeks with the intention of treating myself to a new analogue M with some of the proceeds I've been back and forth many times on the choice between buying a MP or a MA.....In the end I've just confirmed an order for the MA. Why the MA over the MP? Well even when I analyse it myself it's sorta nuts, I don't like Black Paint finish and the MP now is only available in black in Black Paint, whereas the MA comes in Black Chrome, my preferred finish, ( I am not a Silver Chrome M person ). The MA's lack of a meter doesn't worry me too much, I will probably only run TriX through the MA and as I've been using that film for decades I will hope that optical muscle memory will kick in, we'll see. I still have the M7 if I want analogue metered shooting, as well as the truly excellent Voigtlander Bessa R4A both of which will give me "auto" metering/exposure, so going meter-less will be interesting and hopefully rewarding.

I shot my 35mm Nikon F2 SLR with a fast 35mm lens, a fast 24mm lens, and a fast 85mm lens. When I was looking for a 35mm film rangefinder,  I knew I wanted something similar.

I decided on a MP, M2, or M6 body. I am sure I would have been happy with any of them, however, I came upon a great deal on an M6. I bought the M6 and gradually bought a 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss, 90mm f/2 Summicron, and a 21mm f/1.4 Summilux. I have been very happy.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

Pretty much decided on the MA now....................................But what about that nice refurbed and customised M2?

M-A now, the others will sort themselves out.

For me, M-A IS so nice to use that the others M can just be "now" keeping for backup, I have ( bought before the M-A ) M4 BP and Black Chrome,

nice M but behind the M-A (since 2014 ... 😉).

I stilll think the M6 is overpriced at this moment. The MA is to much overpriced and the MP will be on the second hand market for ages at the same price as ten years ago. staying steady.

Since the year 2000 I think an MP is the best camera ever made, no comparisson for a M2 in what way you paint it. Buy it second hand and if you don't like it after a while, somebody will gladly buy it from you for the same price.

...just one more option? An MP with a handheld meter gives you two 🙄 (etc., etc., ad nauseam). Thankfully, the matter is now resolved.

M-A # MP

I had MP for years, when I bought M-A in late 2014,

my opinion is that using M-A ( and love it more than MP/M4/Mx) can only be understood after using it 😉.

I don't argue this anymore, as we are all different.

🙃.

In real life use, every M is fine to produce what we want, with more or less pleasure/efficiency.
