Advertisement Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Hi profus, Take a look here SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1411 / TC-2011. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JulianHalliday Posted March 15, 2021 Share #22 Posted March 15, 2021 I mentioned I'd post some images made using the 105 Macro with the TC-2011 2x extender. I must say, my experience over the few days I've had use of the thing has been quite positive -- the photographs are perfectly usable, even with the necessary allowance for a slightly reduced sharpness. Here's a first image -- the size constraints mean I can only post one at a time. This is a pretty tight crop, comprising only the center third of the image (i.e, only the center portion if the screen is divided into 9 equal rectangles). Welcome, dear visitor! pocholin Posted April 26, 2021 Share #25 Posted April 26, 2021 I got my 2x TC today, I am satisfied overall but I was shocked to see the F-stop effectively doubles! I hadn't read about the effects of the tele-converter for this particular case, I assumed that it would increase one or two F stops. However, the CL reports F10 is the fastest at 200mm and F13 at 800mm (with the Sigma 100-400mm). It is fine as most of my pictures will be either outdoor and sunny or direct at the sun (with filter) or the moon.

That's correct, all 2x converters increase the effective aperture by two stops. 1.4x converters increase the effective aperture by one stop. It's a geometric ratio, a one-stop change in aperture is 1.4x (actually, it's the square root of 2, but 1.4 is a close-enough approximation). So one stop down from f:2 is f:2.8. If you increase the focal length by 1.4x, it decreases the effective aperture by one stop.
TeleElmar135mm Posted May 28, 2021 Share #27 Posted May 28, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a "strange" question: Has anybody used teh TC (1.4 oer 2.0) from Sigma with an R Lens (SL+TC+R-Adapter+180mm in my case)? Does this work and if how is the quality. In theory it must work mechanically (the R-Adapter is long enogh). I know it's manual like all teh other R-Lens. I had the girst Leica (non Apo) 2,0 x converter. He is not bad with the 180 Apo but you feel his "age". The 100-400 is on my wainting list and and it would be nice to use the Sigma TC also with the older lenses.

The protruding lens element in the TC would fit lengthwise but its diameter is too large for the opening of the Leica adapter. Regarding x1.4 TC I don't know.

Thanks for your reply, , that was someething that I didn't mention, that the L-mount is lager than the R.
jaapv Posted January 29, 2024 Share #30 Posted January 29, 2024 I come to the party late, but the TC1411 works just fine on the R 35-70 with Leica M-L adapter and Novoflex R-M adapter. Not that it is a very useful combination. Welcome, dear visitor! FrankL Posted July 31 Share #31 Posted July 31 Hello, After having really enjoyed the SL2S, I'll probably be tempted by the SL3S, and probably with a 100~400 Sigma for long focal lengths (weight constraints among other things). I'm hesitating between adding a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter... For 60MP, I would have chosen the 1.4x to best preserve the resolution, but the 24MP of the SL3S could perhaps support the 2x without too much loss... For example, the M11 shows a slight loss when I mount an apo R extender in front of a 180 2.8 apo R. And then there's the loss of light and the weight... In short, if there are any experiences in this field, I'd be very interested to read them.

In short, if there are any experiences in this field, I'd be very interested to read them. Good perfiæorming 1.4x extenders (like the one from Sigma and Leica, the latter similar/identical to the former), leads to only weak deteroriation of the optical performance of the lens. It is here assumed that the lens is, in it self, optically fine. Going from 1.4 to 2 times magnification, the end result will typical be less sharp/clear; only the top optically performing lenses can be used with a top 2x extender without noticeable loss of image quality (clearly depending on the eyes that see). I don't have experience with the 100-400mm, but I would not try to combine it with the 2x extender. 1.4x extender should work firm most purposes ok-ish. If the lens was a top prime, a 2x extender usually works. Forbanna tele zoom, generally not (Canon RF 100-300mm f2.8, at a rather astronomical cost, comes in mind as a tele zoom where 2x extender can be used with fine result). Jox Posted August 1 Share #33 Posted August 1 Thank you for these informations. I modified my question : during the night, I thought to choose the 500 mm ! Check focus at infinity when you get the lens; the first copy I had wasn't able to generate sharp images at infinity, the second copy was fine. 1.4x extender works fine with the lens. A little less so with the 2x extender.

Although I love the lens, I have found the results with this TC to be mostly unusable on my S1RII, consistently soft and burry. I am about to buy the 1.4x TC. I also have the 105mm f2.8 Sigma which is compatible with the 2x, but I have not tried that combination yet.
