carstenw Posted August 14, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 14, 2007 I was told 4 months for my Noctilux when I chose it, a few days after the deadline. How early did you send yours in?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 14, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 14, 2007 I waited to the last second June 30th, I'm sure it will be awhile though.
AGeoJO Posted August 14, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 14, 2007 I also waited until the very last week to claim the 30% rebate for a WATE plus Frankenfinder. I received the confirmation from Leica within 2-3 weeks after I sent the request in. Yup, it is a waiting game now.....
hdrmd Posted August 14, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also ordered the Noctilux right at the deadline. My registered letter told me it would be 4 months. DR
wparsonsgisnet Posted August 14, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 14, 2007 I was told end of summer in early June when I got my letter and called NJ to ask about it. My lens is the new 28mm and as was posted in another thread, (1) either they were in plenty as a result of being manufactured during the recent, well-documented Leica tour, or (2) Guy told them I was waiting for one when he was in the fabrication room. So, 10 weeks went to a few -- because they had just made a bunch.
Bill W Posted August 14, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 14, 2007 Guy, All those rumors about you being on contract and paid by Leica to use their stuff and you don't get your Noctilux by return mail? LOL I would re---negotiate......
wparsonsgisnet Posted August 14, 2007 Share #10 Posted August 14, 2007 If we all could have Guy's job, we'd all go broke what with the helping others, the incessant contact with those Leica guys, and also having to buy all the stuff that was so fun while we were using it. He's got the best job, clearly. Anybody carrying all this stuff deserves sainthood -- or at least a cup of coffee.
Bill W Posted August 14, 2007 Share #11 Posted August 14, 2007 Oh..... I ordered my Noctilux the first of March. Not a peep. I called once to NJ and they said they get a list and supply each week of the 30% discount lens. The person I spoke to said she would email me when I was on the list for that week. You can also keep an eye on your credit card for the charge.......

gesper Posted August 15, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 15, 2007 My Noctilux order was confirmed on March 5, so more than five months ago. I ask every month when it will come and they will never say. I'm guessing there is a long line ahead of you, and not much in the way of production.
guidomo Posted August 15, 2007 Share #15 Posted August 15, 2007 My Noctilux order was confirmed on March 5, so more than five months ago. I ask every month when it will come and they will never say. I'm guessing there is a long line ahead of you, and not much in the way of production. I thought Noctis were not produced anymore, just some stock remaining. Why would it take so long to ship some of that? (Just curious, I am not part of the 30% crowd.)
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 15, 2007 Share #16 Posted August 15, 2007 Well they use highly specialized glass to make them and from my understanding it takes quite awhile to cool the glass down after it is made, than everything else that goes into them plus they raised the price and the 30 percent folks took advantage of the discount , so there are a lot of orders on it. Personally i can wait it out
gesper Posted August 15, 2007 Share #17 Posted August 15, 2007 I agree. I can wait. Although I intend to keep and use it for a long time to come, the discount will mean even more by the time they eventually ship it.
carstenw Posted August 15, 2007 Share #18 Posted August 15, 2007 The Noctilux was sold out, and one of the glasses out of stock. The problem is that this glass takes several months to cool down, once manufactured, IIRC. I think that Leica is simply waiting for the glass to cool, and then they will make a whole bunch all at once.
guidomo Posted August 15, 2007 Share #19 Posted August 15, 2007 But this would mean they are still producing the lens. I remember having read in several places that Leica cannot make new Noctiluxes because supply of some incredient/component related to the glass has stopped (in fact, I understood this to be the same glass that has lead to the discontinuation of the 75 Lux). So far I was under the impression that they have a few assembled lenses remaining, waiting to be sold.
Eoin Posted August 15, 2007 Share #20 Posted August 15, 2007 Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't recall Leica giving any reason for the discontinuation of the 75 Summilux, infact I think most were puzzled. However I do recall Leica did indicate the reason for stopping production of the Tri Elmar (MATE) was one of the glass types used was no longer available. As for the Noctilux, it seems Leica are expecting enough through from Canada by the end of October to fill orders, well that's what was indicated to me when I enquired after 2 missed delivery dates(ordered March). Then it arrived 2 weeks later (1st August) totally unexpected. So they seem to be able to pull some out of the hat.
