Hi all,

I have never owned a Leica before and I just received my first Leica Q in the post today. I can feel the lens moving when I'm holding the camera and can wiggle it manually about 1mm. Please see the video here.

Is this normal?

Also, would be great to hear from you guys on 'things to look out for' when buying a 2nd hand Leica Q. Thank you so much!

Walid

I checked mine and probably everyone else that reads your post will check theirs as well.  Mine has a tiny bit of play but not as pronounced as yours appears in the video, or it could be because you state 1mm when I doubt it could move half that much.🤔  They certainly will rattle until turned on and activating the stabilization which does give a reason for concern but that is normal.

If it were mine I'd take some shots and put it to the test before deciding it had a problem.

1 mm of play is way out of tolerance. Who knows what caused it on an used camera? Better get one without obvious issues.

Yeah, I didn't actually mesasure it. I just said 1mm, but it may be less. Thanks for checking yours @Siriusone59. Would you mind sharing a video of yours please?

I feel zero movement on my Q2. I would return it to the seller if at all possible. Perhaps they would pay to have it checked at Leica Service.

Thank you! I will check with the seller. Appreciate the help.

absolutely ZERO movement on my Q2 as well...is your focus lockedon AF or on manual?

Hey John - thanks for the response. The movement is there on both AF and manual. I think I'm going to take it to a Leica service store to get it checked out!

i just checked mine and it moves very slightly, maybe at most half of what yours moves in the video. I bought mine used also from a reputable reseller store in NYC and have used it pretty much daily in all conditions for the past year-ish.

Good luck and let us all know the outcome for future info ....J

Thanks a lot! I went to an official Leica dealer in London and we compared it to a brand new one they had in store. The movement is normal, but it did move a little more than the new one (probably due to normal use). He said it's the image stabilisation and that some movement is normal.

Overall, he said nothing to worry about. However, the one I bought did have a tiny scratch on the lens (and scratches on the LCD) - the store had a pre-owned fully serviced (in Germany) Leica at a great price in GREAT condition and no scratches at all, so I'm going to buy that one instead! It also comes with 6 months warranty, which the previous one didn't have (and a case!).

Worked out nicely in the end. Thank you all for your help.

I'm extremely new here, but I'll be sticking around for a while I'm sure :)

Thanks again!

Reeesult!   Always best to stick with a knowledgeable dealer.  Incidentally, which one...red dot? Richard Caplin? Leica Mayfair?

look forward to seeing your images , welcome!
