A key point about the 90TE's is that they were specifically designed to fit into a full, leather "never-ready" camera case designed for a camera w/50mm lens. Thus the drive for compactness in all things.

The 90mm Elmar-C for the original CL came with a similar (if not identical) folding rubber hood and press-fit "Tam O' Shanter" front cap. it was a 1970s thing.

Steve, I'd recommend you do a little acid-testing of your new lens (pointing it near but not at: the sun, background windows, skies, or indoor spotlights) to familiarize yourself with the "danger zones" for flare - because if you avoid those conditions, it really is a magic little beauty.

I think that the filter thread was different though so the hood will not interchange.

+1. I use that of the Elmar-C on the thin T-E and modern lenses without any problem though but i don't screw it too tight.

I bought the slim version of the Tele Elmarit second hand some months ago and it came with the comparatively huge Leica lens hood. The latter indeed significantly increases performance, even though it does not fully match that of my 2.4 Summarit. Nevertheless quite good.

I bought the slim version because this is so light and small that one may always have this in the camera/lens bag and especially on vacation in foreign countries you feel more relaxed when carrying around less monetary value...

 post 106 shows the large hood which is well worth using IMO.

Yes, that‘s exactly the hood type in post 106 that I have! Improves a lot in some situations! I still remember when inspecting the first photos taken with the slim Tele Elmarit without hood. „That‘s dull“ was my first thought for some of them. 😀

RE: this thread., with thanks!... I've a 2nd gen 90 Elmarit 2.8... known the "flare" concerns... have had great results with it with Leica product SN 12575N, a clip on hood... both film & digital.
