I've posted this before but it's still a good comparison.  Which is the Q2 in 50mm crop mode and which is the M10 50mm out of the camera?  Oh, and it's my wife taken on our 50th wedding anniversary!

I use the Q2 for travel, which is better because you have more reserves. The images in crop mode see the same as with the Q2 but with less resolution.

The Q 50 mm crop mode is usable wherever an 8 megapixel image (3360 x 2240) is usable.  You can make up to an 8x10 print or create an image for the web that will not lose any resolution.

My personal preference is to not use the crop modes, but I often take a picture knowing it will be heavily cropped, sometime to the equivalent of a lens longer than 50 mm.

Here are two examples, neither of which I used the 50MM crop lines -- I just cropped considerably more in post processing
