The sharpness never bothered me. Low light yes it could be sharper though usually the corners rarely illuminated enough. It also render colors more towards modern smooth renderings. A great lens IMHO. Not sure if the new version render colors the same?

The 28 Summicron is one of my all time favourite lenses. 28 mm very much suits how I see a lot ofthe works that I want to photograph.

I tested three v2 samples until  I found one that performed better in the corners than my original v1.  As I do a lot of landscape the upgrade was worthwhile.  This was the only reason (and a bit of OCD GAS 🙄) I upgraded and had more or less given up on the idea till I finally tested a third v2.  If you’re not bothered by the corner performance then don’t upgrade.  This was also the advice of two dealers.

I don’t think there is otherwise ANY difference in how the two lenses image.  I couldn’t otherwise perceive any when I was doing side by side comparisons.

This is from Fall Exhibit at the Bellagio Hotel here in Las Vegas.  M-P 240 & Elmarit-M 28/2.8 (V5).  I have been giving some thought to upgrading to a Summicron 28/2 as I really like my Summicron 50/2.  I do like this Elmarit 28 and I'm not sure if upgrading would be worth the extra expense.  The faster speed of the Summicron would be nice, but stopped down to f/4 or 5.6 I'm not sure there would be a significant improvement in IQ.

Only way to really know is to try it, using your own shooting/editing/viewing/handling style and preferences. Opinions here will run the gamut. Either demo from a dealer or rent.

Summaron-M.

This one's inspired by one of the previous postings in this thread (which I can't find again) of Wistman's Wood on Dartmoor

I like your work with the Summaron!! I think @Ouroboros posted a photo taken at Wistman's wood either in this thread or the Summaron thread. I had fun there years ago when I was still using Kodak HIE but all the negs got ruined after a flood here.

I suppose you recognise this place, even without the bus load of tourists :)

Thanks Ian!  I am definitely going to buy another Summaron, I totally regret selling it.  Is your pic the clapper bridge at Postbridge?  Just up the road from Two Bridges/Wistman's Wood.

I grew up in Plymouth and spent a lot of my youth on Dartmoor until I moved away in my early 20s.  I always go back when I can and Wistman's Woods is always a favourite place to visit.
