ikc Posted May 12, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) All, I placed an order for a product called Q-CAP, which I believe is fairly new to the market. This is an machined anodized aluminum cap that fits into the Q/Q2 lens hood. I had previously abandoned using the lens hood because of the size and my dislike of the included lens cap. I opted for a Leica filter and standard 49 mm lens cap. The Q-CAP seems to offer the best of both worlds. It looks to be really low profile, easy to remove quickly and pocket. Works with filter. I'll offer more details after I receive the product. https://qcap.store I.

antigallican Posted May 13, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2020 I bought a small optech lens cover which works perfectly and gives the hood some protection too for £8. One of these is €69+.
Colourise Posted May 13, 2020 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2020 That looks quite a neat lens cap. I look forward to your comments on this product after you have received it

Leica Guy Posted May 13, 2020 Share #6 Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) Some users seem to like having a cap. After almost 5 years with my Q and lately Q2, I never use a cap. A high quality UV filter protects the front element. Keeping a micro fiber cloth handy helps remove any dirt. It’s just easier to go sans cap. Chippy_boy Posted May 15, 2020 Share #7 Posted May 15, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) €70 plus tax for a lens cap is taking the ****. I don't care if it's for a Leica, that is a rip off. Heck, the Leica one is only what, $30? Edited May 15, 2020 by Chippy_boy
stuny Posted May 15, 2020 Share #8 Posted May 15, 2020 The price is one of the reasons I dismissed it immediately, especially when one considers its simplicity, parts and materials.
T.J. Posted May 15, 2020 Share #9 Posted May 15, 2020 I really like my little Optech Mini Hood Hat. It cost $6.50, protects not only the lens element, but a nice chunk of the lens as well. I leave it off when I'm out shooting and only put it back on when I put the camera in my backpack.
Herr Barnack Posted May 15, 2020 Share #10 Posted May 15, 2020 (edited) This looks like a good option for a Q lens cap, but I will agree with others who think the price is out of line. I would consider it if ir were priced more reasonably; A while back, I got the Match Technical Q2 lens cap which seemed a little costly at the time, but it has proven its worth - and in spades. Take a look: https://leicastoremiami.com/collections/q-system-accessories/products/lens-cap-lc-sr-01-for-leica-q-and-q2-by-match-technical?variant=29806746206252 With apologies to @ikc if this comes across as thread hijacking. stuny Posted May 16, 2020 Share #11 Posted May 16, 2020 The match Technical is what I ended up buying after losing too many of the Q lens caps. I've very happy with it, and it's much less expensive than the Q-Cap
Graafber Posted May 21, 2020 Share #12 Posted May 21, 2020 Based on the tip of this thread, I bought the Qcap, agree very expensive. At the other hand, it is only 1,67% of the price of the Leica Q2 But anyhow, it is a well made cap, fits perfectly and looks great. Despite the price, I think it is worth it. 2

I actually bought both the Micro and the Mini, I wanted to see which one fit better. I ended up keeping both because they were so inexpensive. The Micro fits well and is the exact sized of the lens, but is a little tricky to get on. The Mini does cover around 1cm more of the lens body, but is bulkier in the pocket when shooting. I think I’ll I use the Mini when I’m using a bag and the Micro for when I just have the camera alone.

James1975 Posted May 22, 2020 Share #15 Posted May 22, 2020 I also ordered this. Arrived within 3 days and fits like a glove. Solid, top quality and a huge improvement to what leica bundles with the Q2.

JEEZUZ! 😱 I would expect someone could mail it to you from the U.S for $20 or less. Do you have friends or family in the U.S. who could help with that? I've rather surrendered that particular aspiration and have stuck with the original. Stephen
