This may seem like a very basic question, but I am contemplating a used SL2 that is in very good condition. Two questions, would help if can get answers:

  • Does the SL2 come with a hot-shoe cover?
  • How about cables - HDMI, USB and such?

Separately, I was really surprised at the rather flimsy box for the SL2, compared to SL 601 that has really thick padding not only on the bottom but also on top.

No Hotshoe cover as above, if I remember right no HDMI or usb cable either - I know I purchased a usb cable separately anyway. From memory, Body, Strap, Charger, Battery, and power cables.

There's sure to be an unboxing on you tube if you want to check.

Thank you for the replies. I was able to confirm with the dealer too - no hot-shoe and no cables other than those for charger. My SL 601 came with everything incl hot-shoe and HDMI, USB cables that's why I wasn't sure.

I bought mine used too but was assured it was as new.  I do remember feeling slightly underwhelmed as I unpacked it, not at all like any other Leica camera I had previously received.

I go to B&H for this sort of information.  It's "What's in the box" listing shows only camera, body cap, strap, battery and charger (without saying what plugs and cables the charger comes with).  No hot-shoe cover is listed.  Mine was manufactured in Nov 2019 and came with an American style power plug, as it has an "other countries" serial number and wouldn't expect to supply the English or European plugs.  There was also a quickstart manual of six pages, but no black printed 200-page manual.  I'm still waiting for that one, even though I have requested it online twice.  B&H, while thorough, is also a bit trusting.  It describes the multi-shot high resolution mode and the use of low energy BlueTooth to transfer geolocation information, even though neither of those has really happened yet.  I did my unboxing of the SL2 curbside, before hopping on a plane, so I could have left something behind, but M cameras come with their hot shoe cover installed, so I think Leica made a conscious decision to leave it out, and in so doing was able to drop the price by about $1000.

I have a theory about the lack of hot shoe cover. This is my theory about why there is no hot shoe cover with the SL2: the cover would put the hot shoe inside and would therefore need water sealing to meet the declared waterproof standard.
