So it's interesting how life works.  I got my M246 and film M-P at the end of 2018, and used them sporadically into the first half of 2019.  Now with the M10M announcement, I had not much interest originally.  I've acquired a full Leica S system late in 2019 and had enough things to play with and compare, such as S 007 to X1Dii.  However, something about sheltering in place caused me to pick up the M246, and I've made thousands of shots with it in March and April, and also dozens of B&W videos.  I even got the Leica Mikrophon adapter for M246, to record stereo.  And after reading many reviews, I'm getting the M10M, hopefully next week.  I'm not letting the M246 go as the B+W video might never come back and it's the only rangefinder with video I got (Edition 60 eschewed it).  I can also compare them and do two-body, two-lens shooting.  I'm usually carrying a color M, M60 or M10, when I take the M246 with me, so now it would be three Ms, no big deal compared to say S with an X1D and a few of their lenses.

There's a lot to say for B+W in these polarized times.  It has drama and urgency, going back to elemental meaning.  It's interesting how the times make some technology urgent and relevant.  We'll see what the future will bring, and I'd like to capture the shadows and the light.:)

Going back to B&W after a hiatus of perhaps 30 years, when I last had my darkroom set up, is really powerful for me. it is getting me to slow down and see the world around me in basic ways. In so many functions the M10M is such a simple and basic camera that it keeps that pure... but then I keep finding things about Leica that are such useful technology hidden behind that simplicity. Just for example, I was frustrated with some of my shots not being as level as I'd have liked, and went out and got a cheap line level to rest on top of the camera for those times... and then discovered that there's a level available in Live View! Granted, it's a little hard to see sometimes outside, but wow! And the histogram when you half push the shutter. I am amazed at how little tweaking is needed in Lr so many times, because I can preview the histogram. What a beautiful blend of "drama, urgency, and technology" to paraphrase you.

Congrats on the soon to be M10-M!  If owning one Monochrom is special (and it most indisputably is), owning two must be special-squared! 😉

And it begins!  The shuttered Leica SF store, with life inside!
