To me this looks slightly back-focused. Look at the top window on the right.

I know,  top window on the right is totally out of focus!

Notice front wall generally sharp, but rocks on bottom left corner is out focus.

I love this image, colors an bokeh, but I thought at least few flowers should be sharp. Taken f2.

I see tons of blown highlights at the edges, hard to say anything, with all the chromatic aberration too.

This, less overexposed, twig appears properly sharp:

With respect, DoF is shallower at f/2 than at f/4 obviously. To avoid variables like possible user errors, better use a tripod and focus magnification carefully. Now can one quote another 35/2 (or 40/2) M lens sharper at f/2 than the current Summicron? Perhaps the CV 35/2 but i'm not 100% sure of that as i use it only on the digital CL. Otherwise, as much as i like them, my German and Canadian copies of the Summicron 35/2 v4 cannot compete with my Summicron 35/2 asph v1 as far as sharpness (acutance) is concerned at f/2.

You may have a decenter lens : manufacturing error or lens being knocked down.
Send it back to Wetzlar for CLA. Make it fast if it is still under warranty.

Is those images I posted above, look like manufacturing error?

I still have warranty. Because if I have to send it back it's a quite a disaster with all this Coronavirus situation delays. I'm in USA I don't know how long it might take?

Leica not accepting items for repair now. I still have 5 month under warranty.

It does not look normal.
I’ve got 3 different Summicron-M 35mm asph. None of them were this bad.
Even worst, your version (2016+) is the sharpest for mirrorless cameras. Leica tweaked it for better performance with SL. And of course it get more aperture blades for smoother bokeh.

So I f you can get perfect sharpness with your two other lenses. I guess that neither your CL nor M-Adapter-L are faulty.
What’s left ? Your 35mm has to be defected. It sucks, but that happens. It may have been banged or something.
Are you the first buyer ? Or it is a second hand.

If second hand, you do not know the lens real history.

But you can claim warranty now to get into the queue.

I bought it from Camera West store in Ranch Mirage, California, I bought few Used lenses there before it was good.
This lens was an open box item, that is why it came with warranty. But how do you know for sure what happened to it of lens was already opened.

Eev776,   Like you, I have bought most of my Leica gear for decades from Camera West.  If you have an issue with the lens I recommend you simply call Sean and let him know about the lens.  I would box up the lens with a note explaining the issue and ask it be sent to Leica for repair.  The store is accepting and sending shipments.  Sean will have it shipped once Leica starts accepting repairs in Allendale.  You could also ask him for either a refund or exchange and pay the difference for a new one.  I am certain everything will work out for you.  r/ Mark

In that case the solution is simple: Talk to Camera West. they have an excellent reputation for customer service. If the cause, as Niccy suggests, is decentering, they may well involve a trusted third-party repair service or they certainly will be able to sort this with Leica.

I just talked to the Sean, before reading your reply. I already send it back to them and I will exchange it to a brand new same lens, I'll have to pay extra $300 dollars, because mine was open box. Hope they not going to charge me re-stocking fee because it's nit my fault.

I'll keep you busy posted, can't wait to see how images would be different with new lens.

Eev776,   I would be very surprised if Sean would charge you a restocking fee.  You mentioned buying other lenses from his store and I doubt in these times, he would charge you.  The lens was defective.  Most likely de-centered optics.  My experience hiking in adverse weather and terrain all my M, S and SL equipment although robust, does need CLA on occasion.  Your case is different, but you will have an outcome satisfactory to you.  r/ Mark

They are incredible store, I love their stock selection. Their customer service...I had better customer service before, but it was nice to speak with Sean today for sure, he was very helpful.

You are lucky. French stores are not so nice.
Leica stores do not have return policy at all, when you buy it in store. Only when for online orders.
If you got dissatisfied, they will be happy to sell it for you as used item. With a loss of 35-40% for you ! And 20% of sell commission again for them.
What a shame !
Other big stores like Fnac will charge 10% restocking fee and sell it with 15% discount as previously return product.

That’s sucks Nicci78. I didn’t know it’s like that in France, I wonder if German stores have better policies. Camera store people are really stuck up most of the time... probably around the world, I don’t know why they just all same sales people to me.
We have a big camera store in Los Angeles called Samys, that store is just disgusting and so ignorant, I do avoid that store all the time. I wanted  to sell them back my TL lens I bought from them 2 months earlier, they say “no no no we don’t do trade ins for TL lenses!”

Our LA Leica store is fantastic though, I been dealing with many different sales people there always excellent customer service, especially Rob, I purchased and returned items with them before, sold them my lenses too. Even though all Hollywood celebrities shop there like Lenny Kravitz, Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves got their cameras there and still visiting store all the time. Too bad it’s closed now because of the virus.

I do trust New York’s Adorama and B&H for years too.

Here is how story got resolved!

I sent my open box Summicron M 35mm that had focusing issues back to the store and exchange it for brand new same lens made in end of February 2020, paid $380 plus.

Lens arrived today, OMG this new lens is fantastic!!!

Sharp wide open at f2 and even more spectacular at f4.

Thanks to Camera West store in Rancho Mirage, California.

Here is some images wide open f2 with new Summicron 35mm lens, no Lightroom adjustments applied. This is what I call sharp!

I am so glad that you solve the problem for only 380$

Nice 2CV by the way.

Thanks!

I do appreciate for pointing out my lens problem back then, I was really frustrated with it, my new lens just works perfect.
