Lens detection off when using non-leica lenses on M10?

Recommended Posts

Digital M bodies have been known to 'see'  codes on lenses where there are none. The usual culprits are screws or similar features in the place where modern M lenses have the code. It's conceivable that an adapter for a foreign lens could have such features, but I think that not very likely.

Hence, if your M10 appears to recognize a lens which should have no code, you might consider turning detection off.

Another question is, how will the Visoflex 020 behave if lens detection is off? I keep a 25 years old Voigtlaender Super Wide Heliar 4.5/15, which I attach with a no name M39/M adapter to a M10-D. This combination works very well, although the lens is not mechanically coupled to the viewfinder. However, the Visoflex which I really would consider useful with such exotic wide angles, simply shows "No lens detected" in white letters on the black screen.

Turn off lens detection.

Once, I had an M (Typ 240). IIRC there was a setting which enabled the camera to take photographs even when there was no lens detected (or, indeed, no lens mounted). I presume that the M10 might have a similar setting.

Your adapter probably have a cut out for infinity lock. Get another adapter without this cut out, so that it covers the lens detection sensor. Or cover it with tape.

You are right, the sensor window gets not covered with my adapter (see the photo), resulting in the malfunction. I put a piece of dark tape on it - works well now! Eventually I try get a suitable adapter later, thank you for the hint!

The function " Lens detection off" as suggested by @dauis not available at the display-less M10-D, only limited functions can be addressed via the FOTOS app.

You can take a photograph with no lens on the M10 anyway, so a) it hasn't detected a lens, and b) it still lets you take a photo. So how exactly does switching lens detection to OFF going to make any difference except for a longer trip through the menu to turn it back on again? And if you did turn lens detection to OFF you can still take a photo with no lens on the camera........

Yes, but Liveview/Viso doesn't work when the M10 thinks there is no lens attached, e.g. when using a 39 to M adapter with a cutout. Turning lens detection off will enable Liveview/Viso.

Exactly what I've learned the hard way, years ago.

Now when I happen to use non coded lens (LTM for example or SLR lenses with adapters), I just turn the lens detection off, a couple of push buttons away..

If you are now answering a different question why involve me?

Q: So how exactly does switching lens detection to OFF going to make any difference except for a longer trip through the menu to turn it back on again?

A: It makes it possible to use the Viso when the M10 thinks there is no lens attached (what was originally asked by AndreasG)

But that wasn't what was asked by the OP and I hadn't responded to what AndeasG said anyway so I reiterate, why involve me?
