..and that's Tony's trusty mechanic George driving the Alfa...

I've had many a races against Tony in HGPCA events.

Well spotted. When I posted this, I was going to mention that it was Tony's mechanic driving the car. This pic was taken at the Historical Grand Prix in Monaco a couple of years ago.

'70s Chevy Drag Bike. 350 cu.in. liquid-cooled V-8, single speed. No radiator or cooling system, motor filled with water before every run, motor mounted sideways and carburetor is turned 90 degrees from normal to account for acceleration forces. Built by Fred Robinson for demonstration runs at drag strips.

This one's especially for Patty. 1905 Mars Carrette in a motor museum in Franschoek, South Africa.  I suspect "The Eliminator" is faster.

Group C factory Porsche 956. My favourite racing car, and one which I watched a great deal in the early to mid-80s endurance races.

I fully agree.  This also applied to the Mercedes Benz W113 Pagoda and R107 models.

My 1971 Pagoda was originally exported from the factory in Germany to the US. I purchased it from a US seller in 2013,  when I imported it back to Europe I changed the bumpers & headlights back to Euro spec.  Much cleaner looking, and as the car was originally designed by Paul Bracq.  My 300SL R107 was a Euro car.

I've always associated Paul Bracq with the design of the iconic Mercedes Benz Pagoda.  From 1971 to 1974  he was the head of BMW design during which time he designed the 1600ti,  5, 6 & 7 series BMWs - the kidney grill & the 2 twin headlamps.

A 1956 model, I believe

You are probably correct Stuart as my model year recognition/recollection of automobiles from the 50's is rather limited...but then again I would have trouble with all of the other decades!

Thanks for the links Mike...I especially liked the Golf Yellow 528...I still have a similarly colored '73 2000 Touring tii in the garage. There were some wild colors to be had back in those days!

Nice garage!

I fancied a 2002 Turbo, but not available in RHD so a Tii was next choice,  never realised, but a few years later I did have a '76 528 (twin carb) for a while then went back to Land Rovers, via a Series 1 RX-7.

Thanks Graham! The 2002 Turbos were pretty cool cars for their day...back in the early '70's 170hp in that little body was pretty impressive. I wrenched for a BMW specialist mechanic for a couple of years between engineering jobs back in the mid '80's. The guy who owned the shop was always looking for rare BMW's to add to his collection and he did manage to import a turbo. Hard to do for if I remember correctly, there were only 269 ever built.

I love the old Rovers...and keep my eyes peeled for a 90 series. However, in the US they have become quite collectable so prices are way up.
